Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
If you dont mind telling us how long did it take you to have 0 pain/burning with the diet/medication?
My flaring and burning lasted from March to October 2014, regardless of diet and supplements, and I had near constant setbacks. It was as bad as it gets. I started Dexilant in late September. I started feeling better in November, by December I was nearly pain-free, but still easily got myself in trouble. I had a rough patch after a 3 week holiday during christmas, but got myself on the right track by mid january. I've been pain free since, with occasional discomfort, but no burning. I do realize that it's very tricky from here on... so I will take it really easy... I can't go back to where I was before :(
But i decided to stay on the PPI for more time, i'm just too scared to take them off and the pain still gets back when i too much of the bad stuff.
I'm not being pessimistic, just honest, realistic & factual.
I include myself amongst these "success stories"... On & off a ppi over the last 4 years.
The good news is you've come a long way & it is highly unlikely you'll ever go so far backwards again. If you do have a flare up it becomes easier to rectify. Most importantly don't ignore your symptoms returning. Act quickly.
Keep to the basic tenants of no chocolate, coffee, spicy, tomatoes, citrus, or drugs and you should be okay. I remember when I was at your stage and broke the 'drugs', back to square one. Now go be free of this forum!
Best of luck, hope you stay well.
I hope coming off the PPIs goes well for you, take it very easy and at the first sign of problems I would play it safe. Like others I've found so many success stories that soon end up relapsing, myself included :p
GuskoBurido - funny you say that about anxiety - it still brings me discomfort, even now. Maybe I still need time?
Thing is, I've already been there with getting better - twice! and twice it was a disaster. I don't want to be on the pills longer than i need, but it's so hard to call it quits and say "ok, I'm ready now". It's like jumping off a plane with a parachute that might have holes in it.
I'll see how it goes at the end of the month, and whether to start the schedule or add another month of the 60mg. I just can't imagine another summer like the last one.
