Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I was in absolute misery after 3 surgeries in my abdominal area in 30 days for cancer. Having any kind of gastro pain was extremely difficult with what I like to call "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" on my chest and stomach. I could not manuever into any comfortable positions and would break out into small sweats.
The ER doc prescribed Aciphex which I was given at the ER. It worked great but was $150 for a 30 day supply w/ my insurance plan. My GP gave me Protonix instead and it worked within 24 hours.
My condition is considered short term given the surgeries and stress from cancer diagosis (I've only had about 60 days to deal with all this). So I am on my last week of treatment.
I am not a good one to ask if there are side effects or issues - I may not notice given the surgical issues create side effects as well. But I feel great digestively at least.
