Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Were you ever tested for H Pylori? I still have gastritis after being on the Pantaprozole for months and altering my diet to be lower in acid. At my next appointment, I'm going to ask if they tested me for H Pylori.
Gastritis is a challenging issue! It can make you feel like you can't function! It is depressing but there is hope. Mental health can cause gastritis to develop. Good you are getting help that way. I am a major exrciser too. I got to a good place but it does take a ton of discipline. Usually this is easier for us athletic types. Discipline is part of why we do it. I cant stress enough how important the plain diet is and paying close attention to what makes your gastritis worse. Small meals are the key as well but also not letting your stomach be empty for too long too. In the middle of the night burning would start for me. I would have a half piece of whole wheat bread. Oatmeal is really good for this issue. Gastritis is a 3 steps forward and 2 steps back process. It took me a year to get rid of it without taking ppi's. I took zantac here and there. You have to learn the diet part. Taking a ppi doesnt teach you the diet part because it stops the acid. Once you stop taking a ppi, you are not sure what is bad or good for you to eat. It can take months for the lining of the stomach to heal. Then you have to be careful for another year or so. You may never be able to eat or drink certain foods much at all again. Black pepper started gastritis for me and 9 years later I still have to be careful with it but I can have most everything else and have for a long time now. Gastritis can come back. You need to nip it in the bud as soon as you feel it once you have gotten rid of it. There are so many million nerves in the lining of the stomach, no wonder gastritis can make you feel terrible. I think the lining of the stomach is never quite the same once you have had gastritis. That is why you can still have it start up a bit again years later but if you stay disciplined you can avoid a flareup for years.

It is important to remember mental health issues and gastritis are closely linked. After having been on this site since 2012, I have noticed many have developed gastritis due to a mental health issues and it can continue the gastritis for a long time unless you treat the mental health part. If this applies to you, work on the mental health part as best as you can. Get it treated. They are closely tied together. Anxiety at the least can bring on gastritis.
I am sure this will get better for you with the right help. Hang in there!
Yes I have struggled a lot with the mental health part, and I need to get in a good place to give this a chance.
My problem at the moment is sleeping. I always wake up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep. Will try the bread tip
