Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

After battling what appears to be gastritis for the last year and a half I have made the plunge and ordered a bottle of Pepzin GL (Doctors Best). I have been taking Omeprazole and Famotidine for much of the time. I went to a GI doctor last week and he prescribed me Dicyclomine (he was thinking I may not have gastritis but spasms). He also said to continue to take Omeprazole twice a day. He also said I could go back to eat my normal foods (not sure why he said that). He said to go ahead and have some pizza and beer when I wanted. I started on the Dicylomine but its seems after a few days my sotmach was aching more (even though I was still eatting rather careful). I stopped the Dicylomine and just doing the Omeprazole twice a day, for the last two days I have taken a Zantac in the middle of the day (guess that is ok to do).

BUT with regards to the Pepzin GL, I have heard good things about it so figure I would give it a try now while I am still taking my Omeprazole twice a day. What times should I be taking the Pepzin GL? I just want to be cured for good and be able to enjoy my life again. Its so d@mn depressing.

Any advice on Pepzin GL and when and when not to take it would be appreciated.

shihonage...I know you are a fan of Zantac...but would taking Omeprazole twice a day to advantagous? I take it when I wake up before bed and typically take the second dose right before bed. Not sure if that is the best times. Not sure if taking Zantac during the mild of the day is good or bad. I figure I would add the Pepzin in hopes it will heal me once and for all. I am trying to be good with my diet even though the latest doctor said I should eat more what I want and continue to omeprazole. Hate thiese days when I struggle mentally with the good days and the bad days.

All PPIs (Omeprazole included) do NOT work properly unless taken 30mins before food. I am not sure about exact interval, "smilelikeyoumeanit" or another person _functionally_ on PPIs, could give you a better idea.

Zantac does not have such limitations. It works anytime it's taken. Neither PPIs nor H2 blockers like Zantac should be taken "on demand". There has to be a strict schedule.

I have noticed most difference in taking 2 before bed. When I take them during the day I don't really notice the difference but when I have them before bed I always feel a difference when I wake in the morning.
