Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Pain between shoulders when eating

I've probably asked this before. If I haven't, I'm sure someone else has. I'm getting a lot of this pain in the middle of my back when I eat. Of course I get some of the same old pain in the center of my chest too... probably GERD. Is the back pain GERD also?

I don't have a gallbladder, don't drink and am not diabetic. I do have chronic gastritis. And I am scheduled to see the doctor in about a week.This pain in my back is making it hard to sleep. I thought all this was over. It settled down for awhile and was much milder. But it's starting all over again.

Oh yes I have. I have it at the moment. Inbetween the shoulder blades then passes to the chest and throat. Some days ok, others not. I have a HH and esophagitis. Gall bladder showed two tiny polyps but not of a concern to the specialist.
I am even finding that the strong smell of my oils and moisturiser I use on my face can hit my chest and back and start it up. What flippin next I say !!!!!!!!!!!

GwenY are talking about essential oils? I know some of them are way too strong.

Yes, I use Decleor face products and they are made up of esssential oils. And they smell strong and start me hurting.

I am also convinced my esoph started because I bought a natural tooth product in liquid form which is made up of Peppermint oil and Almond oil. You put a few drops on the brush twice a day. Then you gargle twice a day. It has no chemicals in it but two weeks after using it it started hurting down my esophagus. I carried on another couple of weeks and then thought - naa not happy with this. And this esopho started up. Now I am very wary. Even a spray deodorant if I inhale any starts hurting straight away. And hair laquer - forget that. Its a flippin pain in the bum.

GwenY I use some of the essential oils but I never take them internally. I believe my gastritis came as a result of a small bowel resection I had 8 years ago and the stress of having a sick husband. But funny thing... my son has developed GERD too. Seems like you hear about more and more people with this problem.

My husband has had heartburn for years but it has got much worse in the last few months. Of course he is not going to the doc yet.

GwenY One more question about this pain in the back. I get this regularly... even when I am NOT having any GERD or stomach pain. I do have some disc problems and spondylosis so I am pretty sure those contribute to this pain. Going to have to cancel my gastro appt for Monday, but will reschedule and ask him all these questions. But I wondered if it's possible to get this back pain without the other regular symptoms of gastritis or GERD at the same time.

Littlem, I have the pain either when I have inhaled something strong and chemical or eaten something my tum does not like.
I checkedf out the chemicial smell on line as this is new to me and the research said smells (even flowers) can aggravate esophagitis.
Maybe the pain you are getting is "referrred" paid wherein it is not acvtually your gastrititis but coming from one of your other issues.
