Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I was having some acid issues and some very infrequent stomach pain
that went away after antacids. I was also on prilosec which was working.
But i decided to be on the safe side and check for H Pilori so i
got and endoscopy done. I did stop the prilosec a couple days before the procedure.
The doc did the endoscopy and took some tissue samples.
i am negative for H pilori but he did see some mild inflamation gastritis.
That night after the endoscopy i did notice alot of acid.
now for the past 2 weeks since the endoscopy i am getting pains almost every time i eat.
I am still on the prilosec too.
It seems the endoscopy made it worse.
I dont think i have a puncture or i would be a mess. I dont see any blood in the stool.
There was some bleeding from the biopsies. I assume that heals.
Anyone have this happen ? I dont understand why pains got alot worse.
I rarely had them before.
They do go away after i take alot of antacids. The doc doesnt know why i get these pains.

i did some research. after endoscopy about 2 % go to the
ER with pain within a couple days. most are sent home after they dont find anything.
My next step is a high contrast upper GI to see if a biopsy didnt heal.
Do they work well ?
Pain doesnt happen all the time. only after eating. Goes away with liquid antacid.
Could getting a biopsy from a sensitive area cause this ?
I only know of one person who also felt they had pain after the scope. If the antacid works right away it sounds like it is a form of heartburn and it can feel painful.

I too had and still have problems after my endoscopy. I had had two previous ones and no trouble. This jan. I had one no biopsies but small h.h. for a couple of days I was very sore inflammed and coughed up tiny specs of blood.
Now months later I still have an irritated oesophagus causing loads of problems. Of course the drs will tell you you are quite mad.
You obviously have sensitive digestive system anyway and it has been irritated by the scope. I am dealing with mind with diet, manuka honey, aloe vera etc as I do not tolerate ppis well. Gaviscon helps too.
