Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

On pain

Well I have been crying because over the past few weeks my pain keeps flaring up a lot worse. Some days it calms down to bearable then it can flare up where its very bad. It feels like the inside of my stomach,at the top is being eaten. The pain is horrendous and it can last a few days. I have to take strong painkillers like Tramodol to get to sleep. Also I get some reflux. It drives me mad. I don't know why my gastritis is getting worse. Does it do this to anyone else? I can't do anything when its bad just think about it. Im now panicking thinking that this is never going to go away. I want my life back,as we all do. Ive been taking Aloe vera with no success and will start the Slippery elm. Also more Gaviscon. I try to eat but dread it with this pain. Im still hoping to find out the cause of the gastritis. Im off to see my GP yet again. I don't know why I have had this so long. I can't come off my PPI as I can't even tolerate Ranitidine,Zantac. I know I keep posting but its only you people who keep me sane with this.

i m sorry to hear u feel so bad :( .....for me the anxiety pill seems to help are u still takin yours ? I ve been feeling good for 7 days now i added one Carafate at night so i take it 3 times now and i m still very careful with my food. i sure hope it stays this way now sometimes my stomach makes real loud sounds but i can deal with that long as im not in pain ....i m just sticking with what the doctors give me right now i wont add no natrual supplements at this point and im getting my monthly B12 shots now . Im still worried that it will be back when i wake up in the morning ...i hope u feel better soon

Thanks dagmar. I still take the Amitriptyline at night. I won,t take that Diazepam again. My husbands been off work so we have been trying to go out a couple of days,just to local cities. Ive been having coffee so not a good idea. I really will have to drop it,but I love coffee. Im glad you are feeling good. I had a couple of good days then these bad ones. I hope yours doesn't flare up again. If I could tolerate the Carafate liquid I might do better. Gaviscon doesn't do much. Ive got to get the results for the H pylori yet and the blood test for anemia. How long have you to have the B12 shots for? I had the flu jab a few weeks ago. I was ok with that.

Dear Poorlygirl41. So sorry to hear that you are not well. Have you tried Carafate (there are many that seem to have eased their symptoms a lot with this) (I'm hoping to get some today as I have not been having a fine time either). Do you have confidence in your GP? If not, perhaps consider going to see someone else? Or even a Naturopath? It's frustrating times indeed for all of us, and worrying about it only makes it worse (easier said than done right?!). Anyway I hope you do find some relief... I feel a lot better just having all of you good folk just "living in my computer"!

i know how it is with the coffee but i wont touch it not decaf nothing ....they didnt tell me i believe when im up for my next bloodowork in 3 months they will check it . I take my buspirone twice a day..... im takin the carafate pills not the liquid and i dont have no problems so far ithe firts couple days it got me more nauseous but it went way quickly and i dont know when it really started to help with the stomach but it seems to help .....im not takin the Gi- Cocktail and i never started the Reglan ....its just to much medication ......im just on Carafate ,buspirone and Dexilant since i still have to take my BP medication i dont wanna keep adding more pills ....

As I just posted elsewhere here, I'm starting to wonder if the cool weather doesn't negatively affect gastritis? Seems since the weather cooled here a few weeks back, I'm more uncomfortable. Maybe it's partly my fibromyalgia, too, but it also seems to affect my stomach. Very touchy lately, despite very careful eating.

I have come to the conclusion that Im not taking enough antacids. I only take a bit of Gaviscon a day. I will ask my doctor if I should take Carafate,Sucralfate again. I don't know some of the other meds you are all on. I think my period upsets the stomach as well. Its all about fighting the acid though so they say. I think we have all the information we can find between us all. Ive seen lots of docs but do have a usual one. If I see another one they tell me to go back to him. Im glad your meds are working out dagmar and you didnt have to take that Reglan.

just got back from my gp shes of the same opinion as sunlovinmom regarding the change in weather ive been feeling yuk since a week last sunday have gone back to plain boring food & loads of gaviscon my doc reckons that when its cold your heart works harder to keep you warm & that could cause irritation in your stomach

Hi we can't win can we if the cold affects our stomachs. Its still playing up but I managed to eat some fish today for dinner. I don't like the cold and feel it easily. Its gone cold here. My husband doesn't seem to feel it. Hes from Scotland they seem hardened to it. Its really bitter up there in winter. I will put a thermal vest on in bed if Im cold and put the electric blanket on. I have to wait for a call from my doc for a medicine review,I couldn't get an appointment for a while.

I completely understand and I feel your pain! I'm so sorry than anyone goes through this. I believe it is affected by your monthly cycle also. I currently have a cyst on my right ovary and have had horrible pain with upper and lower abdomen. They get bad and than get bearable again. Is yours a pain or does it burn? Is it in your back too? Every night I pray for everybody on this site to have a pain free day...I'll make sure I keep doing that!

Hi kl31 I haven't got pain in my back but have got the horrible burning,sore bloating pain in my stoamch. It just feels like its been cut up at the top of my stomach. I pray too and get prayed for. He seemed to say that I should drink more water and keep taking the Gaviscon. I pray that we all can find some relief for our stomachs. I had high prolactin level and also Ive had Campylobacter in the past so that doesn't help my stomach. I also have a hiatus hernia so Im up against it. I feel sorry for anyone with fibromyalgia,thats horrible. We need to pray for deliverance from these illnesses and not give up hope. Keep warm too,more snow could be on the way. Its not in UK yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it comes soon.
