Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Also consider taking Chlorella (I like the Source Naturals brand). It will help normalize the bowel environment and turn your poop green, but the latter is a cosmetic effect.
It worked best for me when taken just after waking up.
take Zantac instead or 40mg nexxium and Zantac. 80 Nexxium seems really high to me.
Get yourself checked with the doctor just in case.
How long have you been on 80 mg? That seems high to me too. If it hasn't been long, you could probably cut back and use Zantac without too much trouble.
One thing that seems to be helping me a bit with intestinal inflammation is a good digestion-specific probiotic. I'm crossing my fingers because it's very early days yet, but it does seem to be helping. Maybe try one of those, or the Chlorella that shihonage suggests.
Don't worry about switching your meds - your Dr needs to understand it is trial & error to get an appropriate combination. You're not being a nuisance - you're being proactively responsible for your own health & well- being.
80mg of Nexium does seen really high. The highest I ever had during a flare up was 40mg Nexium (plus 300mg Zantac at same time).
I've decided to stop taking it and switch to lansoprazole & zantac instead, I have about a weeks supply so if it goes ok I'll go back to the dr and ask to be switched permanently. If it doesnt go well I think I'll stick to just 40mg Nexium.
A couple of years ago I've taken Lansoprazole 60mg & Zantac 300mg combo which was the best thing I ever did to make significant progress.
I'm dithering over whether to ditch the Lansoprazole altogether & switch to 150mg Zantac every 8 hours. I tried it for the last 3 days with good results - bit of excess acid on day 1 that I kept in check with extra Gaviscon, but been fine since then.
The problem is my Doctor won't prescribe more than 300mg Zantac & I need 450mg (or possibly even 600mg). I don't know whether to go and demand/beg for it or whether to just take the 300mg on NHS prescription & top it up by purchasing my own Zantac.
I just don't know how the Doctor would react... or if I just do it without telling them! Then go back on the ppi if it doesn't work out...
I too had this... I am now off of Protonix...., but I am not sure if it actually caused it....
My stool color changed on the protonix to a light light yellow... My doctor said it was the diet, but my stool came back to a normal color after I started tapering the dose.... its now back to normal...
The blood was scary for me as well, and I had a colonoscopy which seemed ok, aside from inflammation.
I drank a couple of cups of coffee over the last week... but not daily.... and not too much... My stomach feels little weird sometimes, and I pull back..... but overall I am much better than I was... I have to learn to be more subdued with food... I dont want a relapse, but its hard..... In any case, I hope all is well with everyone on this board.
Switching from Lansoprazole to Zantac has been easier (knock on wood).... I guess I better tell my Dr I've switched... Feeling too good to be true today... really don't want to go back on ppi if possible... but hey I've been here before so I'll enjoy the good days whilst they last. :-)
Good luck with the job interview. Take extra meds if you think your stress is affecting your tum.
