Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Hi guys, I had gastritis for the first time back in 2011, and took Nexium for 3 weeks and it did the trick, my stomach went almost completely back to normal.
However, my gastritis did come back in March 2013 and I'm still struggling with it now. Admittedly my diet could be a lot better, but I'm just starting uni and it's difficult to get the motivation to cook for myself properly when I'm feeling like crap all the time!
I just started buying 20mg Nexium OTC and when first taking them, they gave me horrible cramps and made my nausea worse. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I struggle through the cramps in the hope that the Nexium will fix my stomach long term? I'm really stuck at the moment.

Zantac is less "effective" but safer due to its indirect mechanism of action, and does not need to coincide with taking of food.
