Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I, too, was unsure about it, and the GI doc had told me I could go on it if I wanted. I hemmed and hawed, and had to see my regular doc in the meantime. Thought I'd get his opinion. He said it was a good med, and nothing wrong, in his opinion, with taking it, as it could help coat the stomach.
I took it a few times a day at first, and now take it only once a day, just before bedtime. I really don't know how much of a help it is, as I also take aloe gel and juice, DGL, chamomile and slippery elm and gingerroot tea, as well as a 'careful,' diet, but personally, I do think the Carafate may be helpful. One more thing to help the inflammation.
Good luck!
