I have had bad reactions to the meds and can't take them. I have had a lot of success by following the SCD diet ( specific carbohydrate diet). You have to be strict following it or you will have some bad set back days. I'm 68

I have had a battle with gastritis for 8 months mainly because the doctors didn't find it until mid may 2017. I was put on the PPI in may and didn't really see any improvement until about 6 weeks after. Thats when the nausea stopped and Istarted to eat properly..I've had a rough time with the meds as the side effects were bad with very bad indigestion. I think it takes a good few months to fell any real change, but everyone varies. I had to come off the meds cold turkey(long story lol)...but after 3 weeks of nasty rebound pain I now coping with the burning above belly buttom. Really hoping the gastritis isn't back!!... I think if you give the PPi's a few more weeks you should hopefully start to feel some relief...it does take a while to heal. Mine is mild gastritis in the bottom of my stomach...although there's nothing mild about this horrible condition. Keep us updated about how you are feeling and what helps...keep well :)

Hi! I was diagnosed of Acute Gastritis last June 10. For six weeks, my situation was up and down. My symptoms included nausea after every meal, gas pains especially after afternoon, combination of nausea and hyperacidity in the evening, nausea in the morning, but no pain in the abdomen. I'm guessing my gastritis was caused by too much NSAIDS and caffeine and at the night of my attack, I took and iron tablet and I read that iron tablets may trigger acute gastritis. I went to two doctors but I guess that was a mistake. The first one gave me 15 omeprazole and the second one gave me another 15 lansoprazole and 60 maalox tablets. I took the first 15 omeprazole and then continued the second set of 15 lansoprazole and 60 maalox during whick my conditions became worse. I would take one lansoprazole at night and two maalox tablets after every meal. The maalox would relieve the nausea after every meals, though. But then, I realized what could be wrong one night when I ate broccoli. (I was on a diet that time, boiled egg for breakfast, boiled veggies for lunch and broccoli for dinner) After eating broccoli, I felt terribly nauseated. But I remembered that before I had my gastritis, I had no problems with broccoli. I searched and found out that broccoli can cause indigestion. I realized taking all that ppis and antacids could have made my condition worst! Maybe my acid was not really that high. And the nausea that I felt could be my stomach wanting to expel food because it did not have enough acid to digest it. I stopped taking ppis and antacids and in two-three days my condition seemed fine but I need to be on guard from oily food and spicy food. I am planning to go on a soft diet for the next two months to completely recover. For food, I would recommend boiled egg, yogurt, thin vegetable soup, tofu and a bit of soft fish and a bit of chicken meat. No pork or beef. I hope you guys find relief! I know it's hell and you start to think life is over. I was really depressed in my six week battle. Be careful on what you eat and please do not stress yourselves.

I use my blender for soup. I can get 3 or 4 veg down me that way and it seems to sit ok. I also use it for fruit smoothies. Also I juice. Carrot and and celery are alkaline and help heal. We just have to keep going with this nightmare.

Hi. I was diagnosed in July of 2017 and I haven't posted in 5 months (see original post above). In that time I titrated myself off most of the meds I was on and followed a careful diet. I'm currently taking only 20 mg of omeprazole once a day, 150 mg of ranitidine once a day, sucralfate once a day. I have been feeling pretty good for the last 3 months and introducing foods back to my diet. I probably overindulged some during the Holidays but no caffeine, spice, alcohol. However, I awoke in the middle of the night last night with burning pain returning and some nausea. I've continued to have mild to moderate burning throughout the day along with indigestion and belching. This seems like a relapse to me and I wondered if anyone else has experienced this after feeling better for so long. Needless to say I'm pretty discouraged and hoping that I don't have to go back to square one with this frustrating disease.

This is excatly what I am currently dealing with as well. I became unwell Nov 2016 and after months of not knowing what was wrong got told mild gastritis of antrum(bottom) of stomach, tried lots different PPI's and H2's eventually ended up with (and still taking) nexium..20mg once a day. I had a few weeks were I was feeling better helped with blandish diet but the burning has come back !!. I get burning about 2 inches above my belly button or sometimes just a dull ache as if someone were pushing a finger into my stomach constantly!! do you get that lily70? it's everyday and is not painful just discomforting. what sort of food are you able to eat? how often do you get the burning?..mine also goes through to my back...really quite painful. I am also in the middle of the menopause which doesn't help!!..I get so down hearted when the pain comes back:(..praying we all heal..

Hi, I'm new to this group. I'm happy to have found it and joined. @Lily70 I read your comment and I'm wondering have you been tested for h pylori? I tested positive a few years back and took antibiotics for like 3 weeks it didn't kill it. Anyways what your saying sounds a lot like me. When i was diagnosed i had a pain like my whole chest was on fire, it was the first time I had ever experienced that and I thought it was heart burn. I downed liquid rolaids for a few days until nothing was helping. I had that gnawing stomach pain for at least 10 years before. I went to urgent care because I don't have a doctor I only go when I feel it's imperative. I just don't like doctors for some reason. So they told me I was having a heart attack and sent me to the hospital. They said no heart attack, Thank God! But I did test positive for h pylori. I joined this site looking for answers to how i can naturally heal and to get some support because my family have no idea what I'm going through and I needed to see what has worked for everyone else suffering from this. So I was thinking you should get tested for h pylori. I have been juicing an entire bunch of organic celery(16 oz) in the morning and it's been helping a lot with the pain. I just started about 2 days ago but I'm gonna start doing it 3 times a day if I can. It might help you too. Thanks for listening :)

Hi @boobear and @Jenrocks333. I have been able to eat a lot of foods in the last few months @boobear but maybe I've introduced too much too fast. I had been tolerating foods like beef, baked goods, dips over the Holidays and feeling good. Then all of a sudden last Friday...BAM...the burning returned. It was gone on Saturday and most of yesterday but returned about 10 pm yesterday and finally lessened sometime in the middle of the night. I think it's back to the bland diet for me. My burning is in the upper stomach under the rib cage. I also get the dull ache. Welcome to the group @Jenrocks333. I was tested for h pylori last July (2017) right before I had my endoscopy. No h pylori present. I eat oatmeal with a half banana every morning and have since being diagnosed. That seems to help. Also chicken, rice, broth, some breads work for me. Pretty bland stuff.
