Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I just turned 34 on the 12th and have been dealing with this since April. I started taking licorice root a few months ago with no help, unfortunately. My pain is under my breast bone right in the middle between my underboob and belly button. I'm currently waiting on test results; blood and fecal. I went in to see the G.I. last week and while I'm waiting on the tests, he recommended I cut out gluten from my diet. Although I haven't been eating much anyway, because just like you, anything I eat or drink makes the pain worse... and as weird as this sounds, I don't burp. Never could. I do have a lot of gas, constipation and when I CAN go, it's usually loose.
I started my gluten free diet yestersay and so far, my pain level has already decreased. I was at a 8-9 before. Yesterday and today have been a steady 3-4. Baby steps.
I don't have a lot I can eat, because I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money to test this theory but I'm living off of Almond Milk, Gluten free bread and peanut butter (which is actually really good), apple juice, water, Gatorade, Protein Bars and shakes, fruits like bananas and strawberries, gluten free cereals like Cheerio's and Oatmeal, applesauce, Yogurt, eggs and green beans. Before this, I was afraid to eat ANYTHING and went from 117lbs to 103lbs. I'm still a little afraid to eat, just because I'm afraid of the pain coming back strong but I'm giving it a shot. It's better than starving to death all the time.
Good luck and I hope this helps. Just start with smalm changes. My G.I. also said I should cut a few things out of my diet for two weeks until I find what I can and cannot tolerate.
Sucks that at such young ages we're having to deal with this. Doesn't even seem like a life worth living at times. It's hard and people tend to think we're just crazy because it's hard to explain:(
I feel your pain, I know your anxiety, I get your frustrations & YES it simply suxs
I have had gastritis for 4 years and I am off work at the moment for a month (again) trying to recover from a nasty gastritis attack.
I think with food, it is just trials & errors. I just don't eat much food, because I work in a stressful job doing long hours & im just not hungry & food makes me feel sick.
But I don't lose weight either, I gained it & bloat up like a dead animal left in the sun..
It is really scary, but so many people suffer from it and understand. I have pain in a similar location but also awful heartburn, nausea, sour stomach and some.diarrhea as well. Im trying to not let my anxiety get the best of me.
I hope the dietary changes help and that you find some answers and relief soon as well.
