Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Hi there, I'm a 27 male. Been having mild pain on upper left quadrant of my abdomen for about 1 month and half. Went to the er 3 times. Had ct scan, xrays, ultrasound and blood work done. Everything came back normal besides couple gallstones. Was told all 3 times it was gastritis. Was prescribed protonix which helped for couple weeks now the pain is back. I don't know what to do, will be seeing my family doctor tomorrow. Any advise regarding this disease? My head is always thinking the worse, like cancer. Has really messed up my quality of life

Been there myself. The next thing your dr will probably do is send you to a gastroenterologist and he will want to scope you. they will knock you out and the scope will go down into your stomach. they will look to see if you have any cancer, check for gastritis, h pylori and sample for celiac. If everything checks out and it is gastritis he will probably put you on a h blocker such as zantac or also a ppi such as you protonix or Prilosec. I could not take any of these drugs as the side effects gave me more problems and made the gastritis worse along with ibs. I got off all drugs and do naturals now. I keep a food journal of things that bother me so I can eliminate them out of my diet. I follow the fod map diet and the scd diet. both are pretty good .However some will say you can have dairy and the other one will say no so they differ on some of the foods to eat. therefore I keep a diary of what I eat and how I feel so I can make up my own diet. What worked best in the beginning was oatmeal, rice, potatoes, eggs and boiled chicken. If you have gall stones you will find that applesauce is your best friend. As far as naturals I take colostrum, l-glutamine, and digestive enzymes and lots of probiotics. I eliminate as much as possible dairy, sugar and gluten.. I also take b 12 as they have found that I have pernicious anemia. There are also a few more things I do but I don't think they will help you. The next bit of advise I can give you is read the posts. each one will give you an insight on things that helped them. I don't want to put gloom into your picture but I have been battling this for over 2 years and some of them here have been doing it for longer periods and some shorter. everyone is different. I have good days and I have bad days and some days my anxiety kicks in and I have terrible days but I live for the moment and hope for the best.

Make a list to take to the Dr of all questions you have. Stay away from spicy, acidic, caffeinated foods (hopefully theyve told you this already. Ive been having some anxiety myself and downloaded a meditation app, which I think has helped. If they havent given you a referral yet, ask them for an endoscopy. My dr put me on pepcid, and ive seen some improvement. Good luck to you. It will be ok. We all have those thoughts

Also no nsaids! (Ibuprofen, Motrin, etc) they damage your stomach lining
