o yah coffee is definitly bad i had gastritis last year and my pain went away and was almost cured and then i drank coffee again and it came back again.

Yes , cut out the coffee and chocolate . They really are big no no's for me .
What meds are you on? I'm sorry I can't remember what you take . And how long have you been on them ?

Giving up the chocolate and coffee will help. As for the flare, how long has it been going on? A bad one usually can last up to a week. For the most part though, if the pain seems to ebb a little now and then, you should still be doing okay. You can call the doctor if you wish. Usually whenever I saw a worsening in my condition that lasted more than three days or I had been on a PPI for around 3 weeks with no improvement, I would contact them to see what else I could be doing. Honestly though, a good part of it sounds like a bit a stress mixed in with a few things that diet-wise aren't helping. Try by taking it one day at a time and every time you reach for the foods or drinks you desire, just remember the worst pain you have ever felt. Then ask yourself, is it really worth it? A few days of that and you should be well on your way. It does take will-power but once you make the decision to really take control, it opens up a whole new world in regards to feeling better.

Thanks Ravenfish and everyone. Well Ive just had reflux and the pain hasn't eased. Im quite stressed up and Ive got a funeral tomorow. I just need sleep,its now nearly 1am here in the UK. Yes I know it takes willpower. I need to keep taking the Gaviscon,thats all I have apart from Pantoprazole and painkillers. I had a Slippery elm and later a chamomile tea,maybe not a good combination. I seem to be getting pain every other day now. It could be the hiatus hernia not helping,causing reflux. I wish I could get rid of that.

Stress can do amazing things, especially in regards to gastritis. Hang in there and give yourself as much rest as you can. Hopefully you will find some relief in a few days.

I really hope it settles down soon. It isn't yet and I want some sleep tonight after not getting any last night. The funeral wasn't too bad though still upsetting. It was my friends dad. I will have to see the doctor if this doesn't ease. I only have one Pantoprazole and Gaviscon as I once had a bad reaction to Carafate,stomach cramps and vomiting. Some people think you have to take two PPIs a day so I will see. I wonder whats the best med combination to try.

Poorlygirl things will settle down again soon. I was thinking about me and willpower yesterday...I have very little around food in normal circumstances but with the gastritis and IBS I do stick to my diet as I don't want the pain. Its a happy trade off. Maybe try changing how you view the dietary changes you need to make now. I can manage chocolate now and have 3-4 squares of dark chocolate most days. This took over 12 months to get to. I can now drink regular tea but I limit this to one a day and now and then I may have two. I won't go near coffee.
Maybe your plan could be about small steps to change. I feel everything about this illness is baby steps and the smallest victory is massive for us.
I do hope you get some relief. I wish I had a magic wand to wave over us all.

Hi Cas thanks,enjoy your travelling. I will have to change my diet. It seems to have flared up really bad lately proberly as a result of eating the wrong stuff over xmas and New year. At one time,a few months ago it was easing and I could eat better. Now its come back with a vengence. Im going to see the doctor about my medications too. I may end up on double Pantoprazole. I wish I could beat this without loads of meds. The coffee I had must have brought it back again. I will see what the doctor says next.
