Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
The supplements I take are either in the form of capsules or drinks as I can't stomach big hard tablets (the Ranitidine are 2 tiny tablets).
I avoid ALL hard food - walnuts or any nuts would really hurt me. I tried a bit of ground almonds, but even this is iffy.
I was also trying some oat biscuits, but have had to give these up too because of the hard particles that seemed to irritate. I can't eat rice or pasta at the moment.
Out of everything I take the one I couldn't manage without is slippery elm tea that I take about half hour before meals. I guess this coats.
I would say diet is 99% of the helper for me really. Lots of low fat cottage cheese & natural probiotic yoghurt, no sugar (apart from manuka honey), minimal fat, almost no wheat, lots of bananas & sweet potatoes, lots of soft or mashed veg & a little soft meat & fish, some eggs. Chicken & veg soup made with coconut cream. I stick to low acid foods & preferably alkaline foods to buffer the stomach acid. I now even have some litmus papers at home that I check the pH of food or drinks.
I truly hope you can find some relief soon.
Right now, I only take 1 Carafate near bedtime. I still take the DGL licorice (though rarely right now--sometimes I just chew on 'em any time of day). I also take the slippery elm, aloe juice and gel with water and a little juice, chamomile or ginger root tea, and my 'usual' diet I mentioned many places elsewhere on this forum--pretty much the plain burgers, chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots, canned fruits, etc. and puddings and yogurt and bananas.
I have more good days than bad, the past month or so, so I 'think' I'm healing, though a painful day here and there can be a downer. Like I said before, maybe it's like this condition is a graph with many negative points at first, then slowly working 'up' as we slowly heal. It won't happen all at once; just a gradual process.
I have also put an ice bag or something cooled in the freezer on my stomach when I have a bad day (I lie down about 15 minutes with this on my stomach). I still have some stomach inflammation (meaning my tummy is too big!) but it seems to slowly be easing. Sometimes I sit on the couch with a heating pad on my back--can be relaxing if you're reading, watching a movie, etc.
I always try to keep busy and divert my attention away from this condition when I can. And I pray every day this junk exits permanently soon!
And be assured of my prayers!!
