Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

More painful

As you all know my gastritis has been getting more painful. It can just come on as soon as I try to eat something first thing in the day. The pain increases and it lasts all day. It can be agony. The next day it can be a lot better then it will flare up again. This has been going on now for about three months. Ive had enough of the pain. I don't know why it keeps doing this. Is anyone else going through this? Does it get better? I don't know what to do anymore. I am hoping the gastro will do more tests. This is no good for me and I don't know the cause. I will have to see what the doctor says. Why is gastritis like this? You would think that it would stay the same with not too bad pain and then go. I hope this soon gets better but Im beginning to wonder.

I really hope you keep after your doctor to get to the bottom of your problems--you have suffered for a long time! Have you made an appointment just to discuss all this with him/her? Personally, I felt so much better once I actually sat down and shot off lots of questions to my GI doc. I even joked with him that his nurses are probably tired of me phoning and asking questions, but he said 'no problem.'

You deserve the best care there is! I hope you contact your doctor soon. I will pray for you.

oh poorlygirl,
life is not playing fair with you at all just now. I do pray your pain is over very, very soon. I had the pain you described for many months but thankfully I haven't experienced it like that for over 12 months. I don't know why we heal and improve is such different ways. I'm no doubt worse than some and better than others.
I hope the dr can shed some more light on this for you.

Thanks sunlovinmom and soretum, well last night I was in agony and Im scared that pain will come back. Its horrible. I will have to keep up with my Gaviscon and watch what I eat. I hope it calms down,Ive had enough. I phoned a doc who was on about it needing investigating. I need to get in touch with my gastro and see if they are going to do some more tests. I don't know if I will get the scans or not but it has been mentioned. The doctor says that it should respond to Gaviscon. I think they think everyone is a textbook case,you just take your meds and it heals up. He even said it may be stress. I can't imagine all this is stress,I know it doesn't help. They make it sound so simple to get rid of and it isn't. He also said that I was a difficult case. I will ask the gastro what I can. Its suposed to be 7 Feb unless I can get to see him sooner.

It could be stress- at least in part. Never underestimate just how much even a small amount of stress in your life may effect your body and your healing process. Hang in there and take a lot of deep breaths. Stay well.

raven is right about the stress. I gave myself a bad New Years Eve and NY's day by focusing on how well I was going and how I wasn't going to start the new year in pain. I think I put so much stress into the thoughts and wham...pain. I know in the early stages of my gastritis stress was a shocking trigger equal to the worst food reaction. Now if I get stressed it loads onto my IBS pain.
I do pray you get answers and relief very soon.

Hi yes Ive been very stressed up about it. It helps a bit to come on this site and talk to you all. I get frustrated as the pain gets so bad I cannot concentrate on reading and have books sitting there. I can't get interested in music or anything sometimes then the day is a drag. Hopefully I will get more pain free days. Roll on Spring then I can go outside more and do a bit of gardening. Its been getting really cold and frosty here too.
