Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I think too many conditions are attributed to "stress" by doctors who often don't want to 'dig' deep enough to find answers! They might think differently if they were in our shoes.
I would personally stay on a bland, plain and soft diet. Have you asked your GI doctor what to do? I made an appointment just to sit down and go over several concerns I had written down and got very much out of that hour!
I would also recommend strongly either going back to the doctor to work on a treatment options (other than popping an-actids as it can potentially cause damage if over-used) or consider getting a secondary opinion. Stress can have a great effect on gastritis and potentially could be a cause- but even if it is stress related, it still needs to be dealt with. Try to take it one day at a time, have patience as best you can and hopefully you will begin to feel better soon.
THe term mild has always amused me as the pain in those early months is awful with no apparent end in sight. It WILL get easier though we all may need to manage our diets in some form for life. A trade off I'm happy to make to be pain free.
Raw vegetables are harder to digest so for now stick with cooked to be kinder to your tummy. Apples can be iffy but bananas should be fine. Maybe take the apples out for now and try again later and only try a small slice at a time. That way you can minimise some of the pain if you have a reaction.
Bland is the order of the day but that doesn't have to mean dull.
Good luck and keep us posted.
