Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Like I have already mentioned there is a very strong brain-gut connection and we all should start from there. In fact over 90% of all illnesses have their source in the mind and the emotional state
there are alternatives but they can be harsh too even if they are natural like gastromend(mastic gum).
As for H-pylori this bacteria very rarely causes any symptoms UNLESS there is already the damage done such as an ulcer in the stomach or the intestines.Obviously he has no ulcer.
50% of the worlds population has H-pylori and those who have it have no symptoms.Ironically those who don't have h-pylori but suffer from gastritis or esophagitis(like myself) can manifest horrendous symptoms.Go figure.
Now that i remember there was a lady who said after her mother died she had stomach pain dont remember if it was 24/7 or not but she took anti depressants and it cleared up.
But I did read also that some people (not only h pylori can give you gastritis, etc) had similar symptoms like this guy, they took an antibiotic and it cleared up. Also some people with IBS got better with antiobiotics.
H pylori i think affects in two ways, the inmune system goes out of whack when it senses h pylori is in there and trying to get rid of it so there isn't much dmg but inflammation from it , these people heal quickly and are back to normal in a week. And the other one like me and some here having it too long destroying my stomach and only noticing the symptoms like you say after years and years of it.
Check both but i have a hunch is a bacterial infection/SIBO not necessarily h pylori but its also missed a lot of times due to the skills of the guy taking the sample or meds.
The number one cause of gastritis is stress/anxiety/mental health issues. This site is proof of it.
While waiting for an antibiotic to possibly work get your son to someone who can assess his mental health. Is he prone to anxiety?
Many on this site go through the same thing and it has turned out to be anxiety related.
Focus on the diet too but when you have anxiety it is hard to treat gastritis and reflux unless you get mental help.
You have to be very proactive with this issue. Get a second opinion if the antibiotics dont work but also go down the mental health road now.l
With the radical measures such as the combination of PPI and antibiotics, you may create more problems. Antibiotics destroy protective gut flora, and PPIs stop too much stomach acid, which has a protective effect on stomach lining too.
As result, stomach lining becomes vulnerable to opportunistic infection, which can express itself in creation of food allergies. His newfound lactose intolerance may be such.
What should've been tried first, is a standard regimen of H2 blocker (Zantac), with 150mg taken at the am and at the pm, which used to be the standard protocol.
Combine that with Gastromend HP, which includes mastic gum, which is a localized natural antibiotic, as well as several common healing ingredients, including PepZin GI, and a good dose of Vitamin U.
If that combination does not help, then and ONLY then more radical measures such as antibiotics and/or PPIs should be considered.
Alas, in your situation, you're set on a course. Since you started antibiotics, you need to go all the way and finish them. And he's developing acid rebound with the PPI.

If I were you, I would immediately start supplementing with probiotics, while he's taking antibiotics. Something deep-reaching, like this. A double dose.

And start taking PepZin GI (zinc carnosine), 4 capsules per day. "Dr's Best" is a brand I prefer. This substance accelerates stomach healing and stabilizes stomach mucosa. This is a much milder approach than Gastromend HP, as it does not have antibiotic effect.
I would continue with probiotics for a week after antibiotics course is done.
If the problem subsides at that point, I would try shift him from Omeprazole to aforementioned Zantac 150mg every 12 hours regimen, and then wean him off of that before too much time passes.
The longer he stays on a PPI or H2 blocker, the harder it is to wean off of it without creating damage via acid rebound.
I use American Health brand Chewable Super Papaya Enzyme Plus... 2 after each meal or snack.. also chewable acidophilus (I can't tolerate yogurt, darn it)....I find the chewables work better because the capsules don't always open in the stomach to be helpful there due to the lesser acid in the stomach (due to meds)
