Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Most of us have what is diagnosed as mild chronic gastritis. The term undervalues the horror of this illness. It impacts all aspects of our lives and makes socialising so difficult in the early stages. I was diagnosed four years ago and while I am mostly healed I still have a strict diet and will manage this for life. I seriously doubt 95% of people tested would have this. I'm so tired of those doctors that minimise our pain. Hang in there and ask all the questions you need.

I agree with soretum, totally. Gastritis, I've found, is tricky, and a 'flare' can seem to come out of the blue.
