Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

'mild gastritis'

Two years ago after what would seem was constant acid reflux I was diagnosed with ' mild gastritis' after taking ppis for 2 months the pain went away.


Since then I have had two more episodes of the same symptoms and it usually correlates with really stressful events. I have been referred back to Gi to evaluate further.



When I was first diagnosed with mild gastritis the Dr's didn't say anything to me so I presumed it wasn't chronic. however now I have had it a 2 further times I'm getting concerned? 


I welcome any advice, thank you

Hi Lornarose01! Have you had an endoscopy yet?? If not I would talk to your GI about getting one, as that was how I was diagnosed with Chronic Mild Gastritis (although I don't agree with the term mild, nothing mild about this). I sure hope you feel better and the Gastritis heals soon!

I had an endoscopy it just showed mild gastritis and did not say anything about it being chronic they literally said your stomach is a bit sore. I had no idea what it was at the time.

Now I have constant acid reflux symptoms and no stomach pain.

Does chronic mean it never goes away? Or it takes a long time?

Chronic means it comes on gradually and takes longer to heal than acute. It can be healed, however I've also been told with chronic it can come back (and be healed again, vicious circle). I was just diagnosed today with bile reflux chronic gastritis. And they want to check me for gastroparesis, I pray to God I don't have gastroparesis. Both bile reflux and gastroparesis can not be cured. They can be managed but will never go away. I'm kind of beside myself with this news. I hope your acid reflux gets better. I take a 1/4 cup of pure organic aloe vera juice every morning to help with the reflux. It tastes awful but it does help. I was also told today by my GI Dr. to drink 2 cups of warm water with lemon juice to help with acid reflux. I obviously have not tried that yet so don't know if it works. Ugh I pray we both feel better soon!!!

I was diagnosed with mild gastroparesis 5 years ago... I had severe gastritis symptoms with terrible nausea... Do you have nausea? Nausea is the hallmark symptom of gastroparesis... I cleared up for months at a time. PPIs make stomach emptying slower so if you are on those it may interfere with the results of the gastric emptying test. Also, I had my gallbladder removed in 2011 so I may have bile reflux...do you have a gallbladder?
The lemon juice with water can help you with the feelings of reflux. I doubt you have gastroparesis if you are not severely nauseated.

Did you discontinue using the PPIs after the two months that you felt better?
