Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Im still getting really bad flare ups with severe pain. It has got a lot worse recently. Im going to see the doctor and they keep going on about taking 3 PPIs a day. Has anyone else been on as many? I find that my meds are not working. Im going to ask to be referred to see another gastro in one of my local cities. Im fed up of being in agony and not sleeping with this. Even when I cut out certain foods it doesn,t help. I know I have to be more persistant with this. Its still hurting really bad anyway and I don,t know why I have it. Im wondering if I should push for a diagnosis of the cause. I keep thinking that it must be bile reflux with it keep getting bad. Im thinking about the Roux en Y op which diverts the bile away from the stomach. I proberly wouldn,t get it though. Will it heal up though? Ive had it ages and now have worse pain not better. It doesn,t even settle down for a week,only for about a day then its back.
I would ask the gi to look at two things. As you mentioned bile reflux is a condition that a ppi will not bring relief . The fact that your ppi's are not giving you relief could indicate bile reflux. Another thing is the possibilty that your ppi's are lowering your stomach acid too much. Low stomach acid will manifest itself oddly enough almost identical to gastritis. When Im on a double dose of ppi my symptoms will be worse until I come off the double dose.

As I said in another post, I'm trying to find natural alternatives to some meds I take for fibromyalgia, so I sometimes do searches for something like 'natural alternative to (name of drug)" and am hopeful I can get more and more away from meds and find more natural solutions.
