Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Is there a pain med we can take for that pain that doubles you in half? The pain right at the base of the stomach/esophagus in the middle of your body?
I saw the doctor today and agreed to try taking the Carafate and Protonix for one month. But I forgot to ask him about pain. He actually told me not to take any OTC remedies or probiotics for this time frame. Wants to see what the outcome will be with these two basic meds. So, I reluctantly agreed.
According to my PH test I have minimal reflux and my LES is working, although not great. It does not require surgery. This doctor is a gastric surgeon and also specializes in liver cancer. He's really very good and I do trust him. He ordered an ultrasound for a month from now.
With all this in mind I would like to stay with the group. I've had a lot of experience with doctors and the medical system and I know there is nothing like talking with REAL people with the same problems.

I use cough syrup with codeine for bad pain. The guaifenesin helps my fibro pain and the codeine helps my stomach pain. I like that it's a liquid as it works faster and my stomach doesn't have to work hard to break it down. I take about 3 doses a week, so the doc doesn't mind me having it. Heat packs on my stomach work really well, too.
