Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
What meds are you on?
You know that effect you get when you look at a bright light and then when you look away you see the light everywhere you look? Well I had this happening, but from regular things. If I would be looking in one direction for a long time and look away then everything before that was kind of stuck in my vision in ghost mode. it was really scary. I think my dizziness and lightheadedness was linked to that as well
It was long before i took a PPI too so i know that wasn't the cause. I also had terrible chills and was always very cold. Sometimes I would just shake so much.
@shihonage: Yes, I get loss of balance too, which is scary sometimes. But no nausea or anything.
@johngreen: Spot on! Exactly how I'm feeling. I don't think it's a PPI side effect cos I'm not on any at the moment. And I've weaned off them a few weeks back. Sometimes I get the chills too and I'd go round asking if anyone else is feeling chilly too or is it just me - trying to make myself feel better, hoping everyone is just as cold as I am!
I used to get this when my gastritis was really bad. My gastro said when the stomach or duodenum is inflamed/swollen then the diaphragm muscle above it can splint/spasm to avoid pressing on the tender area. This can cause shallow breathing which leads to too much oxygen & not enough carbon dioxide in the bloodstream. This can cause things like:
Light headiness
Giddiness
Dizziness
Shortness of breath
Heart palpitations
Numbness
Chest pains
Dry mouth
Clammy hands
Difficulty swallowing
Tremors
Sweating
Weakness
Fatigue
There is a link here which gives tips on how to stop hyperventilating/over breathing.

I seriously believe a lot of the anxiety sensations that can accompany gastritis are caused by this. ie, the feeling of anxiety is a symptom induced by the hyperventilation caused by gastritis.
I've been dealing with nausea, lethargic, jittery feeling, brain fog, lightheaded, off balance feeling for several months. I thought it was IBS flare up, but tested for h. pylori results was positive and I began the treatment with Pylera and Prilosec. It's been 3 weeks since I completed the treatment and I still feel like I'm trying to recovery from the side effects, which by the way intensified my original digestive symptoms; it was brutal.
Had endoscopy done two days ago and was diagnosed with mild gastritis. Given a reflux diet and list of OTC antacids to try. I cannot tolerate PPI (Nexium, Prilosec).
I'm on a bland diet, taking multivitamins, digestive aide, probiotics, Greek yogurt, kefir, drinking ginger tea for the nausea, cranberry juice, omegas, magnesium, attempting to get back into exercising daily which was my routine prior to this flare up.
What can I do to get rid of this nausea, spacey/lightheaded feeling, the jitters, low energy and off balance? BTW I notice the jitters and spacey feeling seems worst after eating.
