Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Left side muscular pain too?

I seem to have pain, tenderness that seems mechanical in nature on my left side. I'm prone to costochondritis and have had it in the past. I just wondered if it was common to have gastritis and costo occur together? Has anyone else experienced a similar type of pain in conjunction with stomach pain?

I have so much chronic pain all over my body on top of the stomach pain, that I can't really answer your question honestly. I know someone will have an answer for you. I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you and hope you are okay. Hugs GB

I've had pain that feels more like it's in my ribs or intercostal muscles. Through my back too. However I've reached the conclusion that gastritis does crazy things to the nerves in that area & refers pain to other places. Also I think the inflammation/swelling can press on other nerves. I'm really wary if I twist or stretch my abdominal area as feel like I'm going to damage something. Maybe it's just my muscles being tense/guarding the area.

it could also be the espohagus, heartburn can do very weird things.

if I strain my back too much then I get the "wrap around" front and back :)

Could it be something from exercising, or even something stupid like leaning against a table when working?

I think that the nerves in the whole area are definitely affected and may act in weird ways. To give you an example, I tried some arm exercises earlier this week that used the muscles in my middle-chest as well. Now I'm screwed and waiting out the pain. I used to get this pain when using the rowing machine, so I stopped, but obviously I forgot to be careful.
