Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Hello, to All:
I just got the news I have chronic gastritis (added now to my treatment for breast cancer), and I am told to reduce my stress. Well, so much for that.
I am on Prevacid, and was prescribed that for GERD, which seemed to work until the endoscope said differently. When I have an attack of this, I am just in pain all over -- headaches, joint pain, bloating, acid reflux, cramping, gnawing pain, and just a belly full of dull pain. NOT to forget the constipation.
It is now the holidays -- not a shard of decorations, no photos, no messages, and I cannot sleep at night.
I am trying a somewhat bland/liquid diet. I managed to keep a chicken salad sandwich down and without too much pain -- and also 5 wafer crackers. Just made the switch to Silk for my bran cereal -- pretty much just trying things to see what works. I still have an appetite, but sometimes it is hard to stare down food and know that it is going to hurt if I eat it. Sometimes just a cup of water makes me hurt!
Thanks to any who can help me get over some of these barriers. The doctor just gave me the diagnosis, and nothing about what I should be eating, other than to eat fiber rich foods. Well, some of them are making me quite sick. What might be some foods you have had good luck with that don't cause pain and to help heal the stomach? Thank you so much.

Thank you for your kind words and for that idea of Carafate -- I remember Tagamet, but not that one. I will be sure to ask the doctor when I see her this upcoming week. And I thank you for your prayers and good wishes.
Each day is a new beginning dealing with many "old things." However, in my retirement, I no longer have to deal with unreasonable people and I surround myself with things that I love, and the music I love. It does make me feel better.
