Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

It's back

Two years ago i had an endoscopy and gastritis was found. After taking zantac for a lengthy period i though this had gone away. Now the nausea is back and starting to lose weight again. I have also noticed this time around that i get light headed, a racing heart and am very tired some of the time. I took byself to A&E on Saturday and had two ecg's and blood tests. All came back normal. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?

Likely... you are tired and losing weight because of malnutrition. You don't eat right because you feel nauseous. You feel nauseous because your stomach lining is damaged and stomach acid is damaging it further. The stomach acid is damaging it because you aren't doing anything to prevent this.

Thanks for your reply shihonage I am presently taking ranitidine as prescribed by my gp but I must admit he only told me to take one in the morning and one at night. He didn't say these should be taken before food and at the same time every time.

My gastritis has returned after 5 years. I am quite opften light headed and experience the racing heart which is a bit scary. This time round also I have a burning throat and on and off pain in the upper chest and shoulder blafdes - making me scared to eat and I have started losing weight again. Back to docs next week no doubt for the camera job.

Yup you cant always trust doctors on this issue.

GwenY. Good you are getting a scope done if you haven't had one for a while.

Gastritis can be with you for life. You have to generally be careful with your diet every day.

@terri002: Healing gastritis requires a regimen which consists of more than just taking a pill. Unfortunately people tend not to take this seriously, and hope that just a magical pill will heal them, until things get worse and they start paying attention to other factors.
