Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
In my experience meds like PPIs plus something carafate can help. However, diet then comes into play - I know I can't get off (or reduce) the meds until my diet has been changed. The diet needs to be very very simple at first is to let my stomach heal, and after that try more things to see what I can tolerate without more flare ups. I know this process can take many months, so patience is key.
Finally, I've had to learn to manage anxiety and stress, and that's been a big project all on its own.
My personal goal at this point is some day to be down to just 1 PPI pill per day, be on a low acid / low fat diet (while sneaking in some treats every now and then), and gain some weight. Hopefully that's realistic.
I keep coming back to the fact that this cold air is causing the problems, though I get good days here and there. I think I tend to stiffen my body with the cold air, and that's not a good thing to do! I haven't changed my diet at all, so I know it's not that.
As was mentioned, anxiety and stress can play a part--and they're both very tricky and can sure sneak up on you!
I mentioned in another post having an unpleasant conversation with a relative (then another disgruntled relative chimed in) who was rude, dismissive, and disrespectful to anything I said. Is there anyone in your life at this time who might be acting in a similar manner? Anything like that you're dealing with?
After years of trying to 'just get along,' I've come to realize sometimes you just have to have some space with certain unreasonable people and love them from a distance, pray for them, etc. It's hard, though, when you see them falling apart and they're in complete denial--then to have another relative defend such craziness and self-destruction!
Sigh...I have found more peace since leaving this alone, though. Sometimes you just have to. It's been a love/hate relationship for too long, and I've always ended up being the doormat. One minute they're tearing you down and belittling, then the next day they're sending friendly little notes! Then--another attack.(is that sick or what?) With relatives like that, who needs enemies?
I don't want to insinuate my relatives are the worst in the world, but they do have some strange attachments to unhealthy relationships and seem to have much distrust (or jealousy) towards my friends or really anyone outside the family, likely because I don't bow and adore another sibling who thinks she runs the universe and has all the answers. A psychiatrist would probably have a field day dealing with these issues in the family.
Interesting I brought my dad to counseling and as he was feeling better and not so depressed, BANG--the siblings decided--over my protests--to discontinue his therapy. They seem so afraid of--what? I don't know. I've always had a strong hunch I haven't been told everything that others in the family know. Oh well....
It does sound like you do have other stressors going on. You're spot on--we need to leave our problems with the Lord. He will fix all, sooner or later. I think we just do what we can and put the rest in His hands. I'll continue to pray for you and for all dealing with gastritis and related. And we'll keep praying for those who have emotional health issues, as do my relatives, as well. They are not happy campers.
I agree there's almost too much tension this time of year, and I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I fear things won't get better very soon as far as my situation soon, as there is too much denial going on. It's hard to deal with it, as I see the self-destruction,but it's like all my other relatives are blind to it.. I believe at this point only God can heal such people, and He is a mighty God Who, I believe, will do just that in His time--just as He will heal us physically when the time is right.
Praying very much--for many things these days, and I'm confident all will eventually turn out well for everyone. Prayer changes things, and things have a way of working themselves out, eventually, with a little help from 'above.' We will keep hanging in there!! :)
Yes, I do just what you do--go to prayer sites. I think I have about 6 or 7 places bookmarked! I rely very heavily on prayer these days, and know God can fix all the broken pieces, no matter what they are.
Thanks for sharing that site, and I hope things are better soon. We carry very heavy crosses/burdens these days, that's for sure. Sometimes I just say to God, "Here, Lord, take all this 'cuz I don't know what else to do." But that's after trying to fix things myself. I believe there are times we need to do that.
