Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

The other day my stomach wasn,t too bad. I went to my local town and walked home,about two miles. I got some pain in my lower spine,in a disc. I assumed it was from walking with my shopping. I woke up yesterday and my stomach got worse and worse with pain. My back still hurt too. I phoned the out of hours doctors and went down when my husband got back from work. The doctor has told me to take two PPIs a day and then Gaviscon inbetween. Ive got some cream to rub on my back called Algesal. That stuff has upset my chest and its really wheezy. It has aspirin in it so it won,t help my stomach. My stomach was agony all night and I had some reflux. I spent most of the night up,not sleeping. My stomach has hurt like mad all day,my back still hurts and my chest is wheezy and uncomfortable. So much for going to the doctors. Im going to try to stick to two PPIs and to keep off coffee and other irritating substances. Do you think it will all settle down soon? I really need it to pick up,this year has been a nightmare so far. I don,t need back pain and a bad chest either. Im going to have to take meds for my chest and stomach. What do I do about my back? I supose I will just have to put my heat pad on it. It just shows we have to be careful with meds. We want to decorate the bedroom and I can,t help much. Does anyone else manage to get things done in the house? Sorry for venting all this,I just wish I was well and you all too.

Getting things done around the house is definately more difficult than it used.to be. Wish I could.give you advice on your back. I live on my heating pad.and in the shower when I'm in pain. I can see how coffee would bother you. When I'm feeling well I still cant even have decaff. I stick with certain tea or hot water. I can only pray for you to feel better and assure you that you are not alone. I hope you find yourself better soon!

Take it slow and let your body heal. Think of it this way- however you got gastritis, it is like an other injury in regards to healing. You need to take good care of yourself and give yourself plenty of rest too. Never do more than what you think you can, as my doctor told me. Just short of that and you should be okay. You will still have pain, but hopefully it won't be as bad. Things will settle down probably in a day or two if you treat yourself well and k131 has some great suggestions regarding back pain tips. Warms baths also may help. Good luck and best wishes always!

How to sleep with lower back pain: Stay elevated, put a pillow under your knees, or sleep on your side with the pillow in between your knees.

Good advice, all!

If my back is bothering me, I also use the heating pad and prop it up behind me in a chair or on the couch, and yes, a warm shower can feel great!

Also, I sometimes push a small pillow behind me if I lie on my side, into the small of my back. It seems to offer some support (and softness) if I roll back. A folded large bath towel does the trick, too.

Thanks all for your advice. My stomach pain is definately worse than in my back. Im hoping things will settle down soon. Ive discovered that a smoothie I bought that is coconut,pineapple and banana contains some orange juice. I didn,t know until I read the ingredients so thats out now. Does anyone have goats milk? Ive had some of that and don,t know if it will help. My back hurts more if I stand its been ok in bed. My chest is settling slowly,Im hoping my stomach will. Ive had two showers today and they do help the back.

You can check the discussion bar at the top of the page and do a search. I know goats milk has come up several times in the past.

I am happy that you found out about the smoothie- still better late than never. Hopefully you are right and it does settle down soon. Until then, just remember you have a lot of friends and great support here. I am thinking of you and hope you begin to feel better soon!!!

Thanks so much for your advice Ravenfish,I hope things are going better with you. Well my back seems better and my chest but my stomach is awful. Im back to the drawing board with my stomach but I know that I have to stick to my medicine routine a bit better. A friend said today that my catch phrase was "Im in agony with my stomach" Its got to get better Ive had enough.

I know how you feel. Well in as much as I'm having a relapse of health issues and feel at the end of my rope. I feel like I'm rebuilding from the ground up. I wish someone could tell us why things go pear shaped when we do nothing wrong or change anything. Hang in there and I pray our miseries are over soon and the sun shines on our health.

Thank you for thinking of me. Things are getting better, in their own way. I have found that life is a journey and we don't always get a say in how it goes. But the one thing I can control or at least try to, is my outlook on today and appreciating this moment- whenever it is.

As for you both, my friends, hang in there. Just as there is pain, there is also joy and freedom from pain in the few moments of joy we are spared in between.

Once again your words are medicine raven. I was getting bogged down in my own sorrows and missing the fact I had many joyful moments and respite within my pain. thanks for the great advice again.

Just reading your posts Ravenfish. Thanks for your help. You do support us all and give us hope as yours has healed. Mines not too good again but hopefully it will settle down.
