Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
..which would be better.... Omeprazole or Protonix or some other one?
Just wondering what the opinions are here on this board. I can't see much difference between them or much effectivness either way. It might just be too soon for me. Only been on Protonix for about a month. Although I have taken Omeprazole in the past. Never toot it regularly.

Protonix is a third generation PPI.
Nexium appears even newer, and is more efficient than omeprazole.
Dexilant is newer than Nexium, but it's not clear if it's better/cleaner than predecessors. It was launched in the U.S. as recently as 2009.
With H2 blockers it was easier to find information on their comparative qualities, because the first gen was downright horrific, second was cleaner, third even cleaner, etc.
With PPIs it's a bit more muddled. But I would probably avoid the first-generation PPI (Omeprazole) just in case.
