Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Here's what I have found I can eat
-boiled or microwaved eggs
-oatmeal made with water, (its gross but it's food)
-crackers and bananas
-plain chicken breast that is NOT greasy at all
-peas and carrots
-coconut water
-bottled water
-honey
my doctor told me to take a spoon of honey in the morning and in the evening. I have been doing this for a few days now and have not really seen any difference yet but it is really sweet and doesn't bother my stomach. So at least that's one condiment I can eat!
I have a question, has anyone actually fully healed from chronic gastritis? I have been suffering for 8 months now and it's truly freaking horrible. Summer is coming and I really want to do some gardening and raise some chickens. I just moved to the country and would like to get a dog but I don't have time for one if I'm on the couch all day!
There are a few people like shihonage and JKH12393 who have done well with this issue. Read their posts.
I have had gastritis 2 times and it has totally healed. The diet part is the key and you cant stray from it. You always have to be careful and vigilant with your diet or you pay for it.
To heal it ,eat really tiny meals all day for about 3 days if you havent had gastritis for a long time and then be careful for another month with what you eat. Then you need to eat small for longer if you have had it for months and it has to be low fat and very bland. You have to stick to the GERD/gastritis diet rules all the time, no exceptions. Nothing acidic can be eaten. check out the GERD and heartburn site as well.. there is a lot of info on what to eat and not eat.
Vinegar is not for people who have normal acid in their stomachs it is for low acid only. If you have a hiatal hernia your issue isnt low acid it is the dysfunctioning esopahgus allowing acid in. You have to eat low acid foods all the time and low fat. Nothing else, if you want to heal the esophagus and the stomach. It takes a lot of work and I find that is the hard part for most people. It takes discipline. Shihonage has done a lot of work to heal his stomach..check his thread.
poorly girl ..do some research on alkaline diets and low acid foods and educate yourself.. you cant have any oils etc.. eating out for dinner is always risky because there is hidden stuff in the foods like black pepper, onion and garlic as well. You cant eat that either,, no milk products as well.. you need to do a food journal to really get an idea of what is bothering you. Pop is in the top 5 list of things you cant have. When I go out to eat I have plain chicken and plain salad. That is the reality of this issue. You will always be prone to this problem if you dont start really working hard on the diet part. I know it sucks, but this is the way it is with this issue! You chould prop yourself up at night as well if you have a Hiatal Hernia.
I have a small sliding HH and I do get heartburn flareups ocassionally. I was skinny to begin with and I am a major exerciser. I also have to be careful with diet and you do lose weight with this issue but that is how it goes if you want to be free from burning.
It took me a while to understand all this but I did a lot of research and stopped eating all the things that bothered me and I can go very long periods of time without any problems.
It can get way better, just keep working at it.
I PM'd poorlygirl a long time ago about Pepzin GI, which is the key to improvement (along with bland diets, however it lets you make them less bland faster).
Pepzin GI was clinically proven to protect the stomach from NSAIDS and repair the damage they case.
She appears to have not tried it. Instead she's doing really strange things like going to Italian restaurant and drinking freaking SODA.
It's like having a broken arm and then deciding, why not lift some weights?
You can lead a horse to water...
I used to go out and dig the garden but have not had the energy to much this year. I need to put some plants in. I also would like to go on holiday but Im in so much pain. I wont, be having vinegar again that's for sure. Do any of you eat biscuits? What biscuits can I eat? I have tired plain digestive ones. Ive nto got a dog I just could not cope with one.
I totally agree!! What else can ! say!
Lesley
Just do the work.Find your discipline. No cheese no biscuits! Apples are not always good either.
I know it is hard but that is the only way to feel better.
Good luck
