Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Everyone seems to be different as to what they can tolerate . Peanut butter always worked well for me and is still my go to when I don't feel like I can tolerate much . I did sweet potatoes , pudding just rice or vanilla and chicken breast . I stuck to that until I could move on to other foods .
Personally I avoid anything remotely seed-like or gritty or hard as these can be abrasive on delicate, inflamed tissue.
I've tried Aloe Vera several times (different brands, different dosage forms etc), but I just cannot get on with it at all. It makes me burn! Also I made a flax seed tea a couple of times, but that made me burn too even though it wasn't acidic.
Different things work for different people at different times. I couldn't tolerate rice until a couple of weeks ago, but now it is a staple for me.
I agree that now is not the time to be thinking about weight-loss. Stick to whatever your stomach can handle right now & doesn't hurt. You might find the inflammation goes down pretty quick & you can re-introduce other foods again. When I used to severely flare up it was weeks of sweet potatoes, cottage cheese & bananas for me!
You're doing great. One more thing - do you use any coating agents - carafate or gaviscon etc? These might be worth a try.
When things are flared up I agree with the others - stick to easily digestible and soft foods for a few days and let your tummy rest a but.
Take care,
