Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Hi All,
Long story short, I had been living with Gastritis & H/Pylori for 4 years undiagnosed, Ohh yes I have had lots of Doctors visits, tests, scans, MRIs, blood tests, Gastrologist, gastroscopys. Had the testing for H/Pylori but came back negitive and had been told I have inflamation of the stomach and IBS. Was given acid reducing medication & I think I have every brand in my cupboard (just didnt seen to get rid of my stomach ache)
My stomach pain was always there and ranged from unbearable to livable, the unbearable will see me back to the doctors, the livable would allways be accompied with constant fatigue. I have by now, seeked out new doctors, left my job as a fitness coach (struggling with fatigue I couldnt motivate myself let alone others) and just dealing with putting two feet in front and getting through the day.
Into the 2nd year, a new doctor, another round of testing it showed I was menopausal, 'YAY' there was my answer, this was the reason I felt so crappy & my stomach pains were a by-product of that. Start estrogen therapy (had to have compound medication as ellergic to synthetic estrogen & that little bout of sickness allmost did me in :-) So for another year I still had livable stomach issues, asterbated by certain foods I ate & fatigue was ok.
We are now into the 3 half year mark of living with stomach issues & bouts of fatigue. I have now turned the BIG 50 & get my free mamaogram screening. GREAT, I get the call back and have to go back in for more testing ultersounds, MRIs, Biopsy & in the end Lumpectomy for LCIS (the BCancer youhave when you dont have cancer) But you must go of all forms of HRT treatment (cold turkey menopause, great another shit thing in my life)
Now we are at the part where things get interesting
The week after my surgery was the worst stomach pain I have every had, I was sick and in alot of stomach & bowel pain. At the end of that week I had to go back in for my post-surgery check and to recieve my results. I was sitting at his desk waiting for the big verdict, he told me congratulations it wasnt evasive cancer, my reply was, "doc its not my boobs that will kill me it will be my stomach"
After telling him of how much pain I was in, he suggested he go & do a gastroscopy and colonoscopy to see for himself what was going on. Finally I get the diagnosis of extensive Helobactor Pylori with chronic gastritis, cell changes and low white blood count all fixed by a dose of antibiotics. I start to take the ereadication therapy and within 3 days I feel darn amazing, uber amounts of energy, minimal to none pain, flipping finally I have found the answer after 4 years of pain, doctors visits and not to mention the huge amount of medical costs it has racked up.
BUT... three day after the erradication therapy DAM another crippling dose of Gastritis, back to the doctors and given a higher dose proton inhibitor, I wept because I thought I was on the right track to recovery. I go for my balloon test, brush my teeth (but dont drink). I get the all clear, test is negitive. But hey wait I still feel like crap, still getting stomach aches that range from unbearable to livable and a friend tells me your not to brush your teeth before the balloon test.
Back to the doctors I go to asking for another dose of erradication therapy because I felt it has not gone & I think that i stuffed up the test by brushing my teeth. "Nope test comes back negitive your all clear" I left that surgery feelin the lowest I have ever had.
Since then I have had 3 more doctors visits, I had a small burn on my hand that truned into a staff infection, A tooth that hd an abcess that infected my system, a rash from new shoes that turned nasty. At each visit I asked the doctors did they think my system is recovering and i feel so darn run down "get more sleep and cut down your working" it is at this point I said ENOUGH.
I seeked the help of a medical nutritional practitioner and I have been working with her for over a month, I had more blood test that showed I had an elevated B12 count and this is where I am at today...
The prohibitor pump jobs is to stop the build up of stomach acid because of this my body is not absorbing nutrients from food because it is unable to break the food down correctly and the vital nutrients are not getting to the cellur level causing me a dificancy in vitimin B12. The side effects of these drugs a huge and one of the main one is fatigue.
So here I am, not taking any prohibitor, trying to repair my body and my stomach of the damage caused by the long term H/Pylori and chronic Gastritis, and doing this through eating nutrient based foods and supplements. What do I have to lose, I was still having stomach issues on the medications (yep agree it did lessen the pain) the doctors dont take me serious (im convinced they think Im a nutter) and I just have to continue to wait to see if H/Pylori raises its ugly head again.
I would rather be proactive than reactive and at this point I will try anything to help myself get better

1) Buy Gastromend HP by Designs For Health on Amazon and take as directed. If you can't afford it, try Ulcetrol by Now Foods.
2) Drop the PPI, and take 150mg of Zantac every 8 hours. Set a timer on your phone.
3) Read my site at gastritishelpDOTwordpressDOTcom (you know what to replace DOT with)
This advise I give you is based on a lot of experience. I used to be active in this group and helped a number of people. However I don't visit these forums much anymore. You can contact me via my site if you wish, my Email is on the FAQ page I think.
I have bought some Zantac & it does help with symptoms. I'm not taking in every 12 hours only when I need it & forever many days it's required.
I'm taking my zinc, magnesium, probiotic & B12 supplements.
Still get pain, (but liveable) still keeps me awake at night, but I think this is what living with gastritis will be like.
