Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I hope everyone is doing ok. I just came back from my GP and was asking a few questions about how long this wretched thing will take to get better, she said it depends on the severity but always a few months at the minimum...I also explained to her about the terrible indigestion I have been getting every day,which lasts for hours and asked if the PPI's reduce 90% of the stomach acid how is the food digested and was this causing my indigestion, she said that one of the things gastritis does is produce a lot MORE acid than usual, and that is what the PPI reduces (along with some of the normal stomach acid)...I didn't know that ! always thought that it was the normal acid that was just irritating the inflammation. Anyway she told me I must take the PPI in the morning(not b4 lunch as I have been doing)..to reduce the indigestion. she said gaviscon double action was also very helpful...so will try also. I gotta get better going to see Robbie Williams next month!!

I have a follow up with my GI Dr on Friday at noon, I have the same questions and I will also post what I am told. Feel better everyone !

Thank you for the info. I didn't know that either. Do any of you get nauseous and weak after eating? I am going to try Gaviscon too. I have a concert next week. I hope I don't have to miss it.

Funny you should mention that but yes I sometimes get a sort of sicky moving feeling in my stomach after eating, but my main problem at the moment is this really bad 'heaviness' after eating. It feels like a big elastic band around me reaching from chest to lower stomach, very uncomfortable and I seem to get it every day now...I asked the dr if it could be the omeprazole i'm on and she said possibly and said I could try ranitidine (zantac) instead, but they are a h2 blocker not ppi so not sure if they will be strong enough for the gastritis. Is anyone on them ? let us know how you find them.

I hate Omeprazole. I tried Nexium but it made me even sicker. I tried cutting my Omeprazole dosage in half and that hasn't worked either. So I am going to add im Mylanta and Gaviscon. If that doesn't work I will go back on 40mg Omeprazole and try to ride it out.

I also get a fluttery sensation in my chest and a serious feeling of anxiety. Do you get that too? Also it feels like I'm out of breath but I am not.

Boo.. I also get the heaviness or fullness sensation. Usually comes with the nausea for me.

Haven't had the fluttery sensation but I have had on occastion a slight feeling of being out of breath, I heared that was caused by the bloating when the stomach pushes up slightly into the lungs. I'm going to phone a private GP tomorrow and maybe go and see him..I don't think I should be having the heavy feeling all day everyday. Do you guys get pain everyday? or does it come on every few days? not sure what I am experiencing is 'normal' for mild gastritis. It's good to talk to other people who are in the same boat. :)

I get pain and discomfort everyday in my chest. The severity varies. Good days I can do some things. Bad days I just sit around. Lately have been more bad than good. The waiting between Doctor appointments is maddening. Each time I have to wait 6 weeks for the next thing.

Thats a really long time to wait!! I am lucky in that I can see our nurse practioner within a few days. i've decided to go again next week to try and change from omeprazole to lansoprazole to see if it stops the bad indigestion. I could hardly bend down to pick something up off the floor today it was soo bad!!!

Zinc carnosine! Please read the reviews of this wonderful supplement by hundreds of users on Amazon! Healed my gastritis in 3 weeks! I've suffered for over 2 years with gastritis and all my doctors could do is give me diets, PPIs and Zantac. No more! I use zinc carnosine and I am pain free! Shame on doctors for not learning nor sharing this information to suffering patients. I hope it helps you like it helped me. I plan to stay on this supplement for the rest of my life. I quit ppi immediately but stayed on Zantac 150mg twice a day PLUS took 2 zinc carnosines after breakfast and 2 before bed. I felt so much better after only 6 days and I'm pain free at only 3 weeks! I'm about to stop Zantac altogether. I hope this helps you as it has saved my life!
