Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

I can't believe its come back

Hi all I thought I was getting rid of the gastritis as I didn't have much pain from it for a week. I have had the chest pain as you know. Now the gastritis pain is back. I think I have been too optimistic. Ive had coffee and maybe some other food it doesn't like proberly and Im in agony again. My doctor said the rib pain was caused by a virus. I wonder now if the same virus is inflaming my stomach and spread to my ribs. I did have Costochondritis before my stomach trouble two and a half years ago. Its very scary knowing that both can flare back anytime. It really is a battle to get rid of. If I can find a way to get rid of the inflammation as a whole in my body I might be ok.

@ poorlygirI41.... am so sorry it came :( ...... i have been fighting some reflux pain in my back for 2 days but i know it will go again...my gastritis not bothering at all right now which makes the reflux pain real light .... i had the same thing one week pain free and then i came back it could even come back now, so i try to stick with the diet as much as possible. I just got done takin Antibiotics for a bladder infection and im hoping they didnt mess with my stomach....i hope u feel better soon :)

Im so sorry poorlygirl41 that your gastritis has came back. I hope it you find relief from it soon and that it does not come back. mine is still here and i just cant seem to get rid of mine though. In addition to that I just found out from my doctor last week that my vitamin B-12, Vitamin D and Potassium all is dangerously low. The Dr prescribed me prescriptions for the potassium and vitamin d and then i have to go get a vitamin B-12 Shot every month at the doctors office and every month have to have blood work done. It seems like its never ending with me but hope you feel better soon. Hugs 2 U!!!

i have the same problem with the B12 i got to go monthly to get shot for a whole year ....

Yes, it's odd how it can seem to disappear--then pop back up.

I've noticed that even when I'm eating very carefully and have made no changes to my diet. I'll think it's gone when I've felt good for 3-4 days, then WHAM--some pain comes back (though not unbearable, as in the earlier days).

I still blame the cold weather here. I think I subconsciously tighten all my muscles, and my back seems to be the culprit. If my back muscles hurt, my gastritis pain comes back.

I've resorted to ice packs or the heating pad and had to break down and take a Neurontin yesterday. I'm one who hates to take meds, but it does help with this pain when it goes on for hours.

Hi all thanks well its persisting today. I hope it goes away again soon. I will have to be careful what I eat. Its in the top of my stomach so a heating pad can't reach there. Its painful when I swallow as its just about there. I hate taking meds too. Im on Tramodol for pain and just want it to go so that I don't have to take that. Are you still on Carafate dagmar? Im sure you were on that. I can get some now as I have a precsription. I know its suposed to help. Im sorry you have reflux pain and the bladder infection. My chest has settled a bit and then I get the gastritis back,I can't win. How long have you had it pugglemom?
