Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Do not stop any medication without the advice from your doctor or a GI specialist. you will get a rebound effect. if you do stop however i heard the the rebound should only last 5-7 days which is much less time then the pain from chronic gastritis lasts. If you feel 100% again then tell your doctor they will lower you gradually. (80mg a day is a lot) I had sever gastritis and only take 20mg twice a day and almost feel completely better after just 7 weeks aside from trouble eating more than small amounts at a time. - hope this helps (always discuss with your doc when it comes to prescriptions )
My doctor knows I want to reduce it. I have weaned myself off PPIs in April and switched to sucralfate and was fine. The problem was that in summer I got overacidic again and had to return to the PPI ... we had an oversea move and I had lots of stress so I had to stay on them for a while. Now things are settled and I want to switch back to sucralfate as I am suffering from bile reflux gastritis and PPI only work for acid ...
So my idea is this one now: 60mg for 7 days, then 40mg for 7 days, 20mg pantoprazole for 7 days, then 75mg ranitidine twice for 7 days, then 75mg ranitidine once for 7 days, then stop. Takes 5 weeks but I really really hope to avoid overaciditiy.
Do you have any diet recommendations which help avoid overacidity? Lots of potatoes I think. Not so much eggs, chicken and oil. And small meals, of course. Any other ideas?
