Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
As for how long to wait in-between adding new foods... listening to your body makes a huge difference. Do you feel ready to try something new? Then do, in small amounts (first). If not, give it another day or two.
Doing this doesn't mean you will always eat the right thing or even if you do, that your body will be fine with it. There are all kinds of outside factors that we rarely think about, like stress, which effect our GIT (gastrointestinal tract). Long story short, if you have an attach, take a step back and give your body a break by going back to your safe foods for 24-48 hours. Then when/if you feel ready to try something new, do it slowly. Small portions, small bites, keep it simple. You can always add more the next day, once you have seen how well you take to it. And if nothing else remember, you have come a long way already. You WILL get there. You are, in fact, already well on your way.
I've just really needed some direction with all this. My support network is not what it should be and having to do everything myself--cooking, russian-food-roulette, dr appointments, explaining the condition to everyone, meal planning, calorie management, severe weight loss, phobias, every other health problem, every other problem I have--can be very overwhelming at times.
This leads to a lot of freaking out. :P
My mental state is doing better now that I have a plan in place, have done the calculations, and have found I am in a cave with a light at the end, not a pit, as I have indeed been thinking.
I don't know if you'd like to keep in touch with me, but I would greatly appreciate somebody understanding that knows, and is experiencing this bloody condition.
I think a part of gastritis is learning to deal with the endless questions and the fear. And it is never an easy part either. You have friends here though- remember that. Nor are you ever alone. This board helped me a lot when I first was diagnosed and it got me through everything, even after my gastritis healed. I hope it will do the same for you. Stay strong, keep breathing and know you always have friends here.
