Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

How often do most of you have scopes done? So far I've only had the one where gastritis was diagnosed and I think it was about a year ago. Maybe a little less. So, how soon ( or if at all ) should another one be done to see if there is healing?

Is there any general rule of thumb here?

I had two done about 2 years ago, only because they forgot to test for something on the first though...

Since then I've never been offered one and they are quite content that nothing could possibly have changed since then....

I think in general unless you have errosive inflammation or pre cancerous cells like Barretts then they don't bother to check again and go purely off the symptoms.

in my area doctors will not give you procedures like that unless you really work hard for it. too expensive, i live in canada with free health care system..so things like that happen. Personally I know what's wrong with me now and I wont even have one done again unless I get seriously worse. I can feel whats happening in my stomach and test it myself by eating foods I usually can't eat

I have only been Endoscopied once. That was in mid-June of 2014 when I was diagnosed with mild to moderate gastritis.

I plan to get another one this fall to see where I stand.

I think one should be done as you should see some improvement in a year or so.

From what I understand with smilelike, some symptoms will persist long after the inflammation is gone.

treeofstars ... that's exactly why I was asking. Still having symptoms, although I think things are somewhat better. I'm having a lot more burning in my throat and mouth now so I was wondering if a second scope would be helpful in seeing if things were any better. Thanks.

I had my first done about 3 weeks ago, which found esophagitis, gastritis, duodenitis, and a stomach ulcer. My GI doc wants me back for another one in August to see how things are healing. She said I'll probably be on Protonix for about 2 years !!

I've had a total of 5 upper scopes now. 3 since January because they discovered ulcers and gastritis. The scope last week shows my ulcers are gone and the gastritis is just slightly inflamed.

I have Barrett's, I was Dx'd last year. So I'll be having a scope every year now to watch that.

I'm going to ask about the gastritis when I go into the office in two weeks. You might want to ask about an endoscope since your having the acid in your mouth and throat. That will cause Barrett's over a long time. I've had a bad stomach now almost 40 years.
