Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
From then on it's been a rough ride, but I've been better in the last couple of months, so I'm optimistic this year will wind this down... I wish I had my knowledge off the get go. I'd never, ever, go on the PPI in the firstplace and I'd know to change my diet. OMG, it's such simple advice, but it's not given, not to me at least. Now I'm stuck on Dexilant for the past 5 months, and hopefully I'll be able to go off it this spring and resume life...
This past month was a set back that only got better in the past couple of days.
I know 2015 will be better but just trying. Hopefully by the end of the year the worst will be over.
I'm healing pretty good now, but i'm still far away from eating everything again.
Managed a few months by strict diet, supplements etc, but still daily pain. Dr wanted me back on ppi. I chose 300mg Zantac instead. Managed a few months on this in 2012. Also was experimenting with diet, herbs, supplements. Massive flare up - went onto Lansoprazole in addition to Zantac. Felt amazing for few months - had my life back. Gradually weaned off the ppi, but stayed on the Zantac.
Still discomfort on & off - had 2nd endoscopy in 2013 which showed ulcers healed & no H pylori, but sensitive scar tissue in duodenum & mild/patchy chronic antral gastritis... The aftermath of H pylori. Also loose LES & diagnosed with IBS. Since then I've been on & off ppi's. Had a good long run without a ppi in 2014 - just taking psyllium & 300mg Zantac. Felt great... until another severe flare up.
In addition to the above I've had various gallbladder tests (ultrasound, HIDA scan etc). Also a CT scan. Probably other stuff I can't remember.
Taking 20mg Nexium, 300mg Zantac & gaviscon at the moment. Also take mebeverine, buscapan or psyllium depending on how the IBS is.
All in all I've come a long way. I take my meds & I follow a low acid diet. I live a normal, happy life, but there is still daily discomfort of some description (& fear of flare ups) which is why I'm here still looking for ideas.
reduced the extreme pain but the burning and other discomfort continued.
At the end of September 2014 I had an endoscopy. I was diagnosed with a healed ulcer and chronic inactive gastritis. My symptoms have gotten better or I have learned to deal with them better, I am not sure which at times. My main symptom now is the burning, not so much pain, and nausea has stopped completely thankfully. I have been symptomatic for about 6 months.
So being symptomatic for 3 months is not very long for this sort of condition?
I hope I get in to see a gastro soon. I'm so worried about this pain and weight loss.
