Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

Not to discourage you- just being honest I'm still struggling 8 months into this. I've been consistently on meds of some sort since May.
I'd call the dr office and ask for a refill if you feel you need it. I don't see why it'd be a problem. I'd wait until you feel pretty good for at least a month straight before trying to get off meds. I'm not a doctor- so of course consult them- but I was feeling pretty good for a month and a half and am struggling to wean from my ranitidine right now. Good luck. Keep us updated!
Since this post I called my doctor and the PA told me that my bottle was only for 30 days but the prescription was written to be filled for 11 more months! So I guess he really just wanted to make sure I could take them for a full year if I wanted to. The carafate really does make me feel better so I'm hoping that it won't take me a year to get back to normal since I've only had gastritis for a couple of months but I don't really know what to expect! Did you get gastritis after gallbladder removal? I think I'll feel a lot better when my bile figures itself back out but the doctors tell me for some people it takes a few weeks and for others it takes a few months! I hate that you've been suffering for so long. I'd love to know more about how you've been dealing with this. Taking the carafate and eating every few hours and trying to stay busy in the meantime is what's been getting me through! Thank you for the reply and I hope your recovery is just around the corner!
