Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I have to say he's been incredibly helpful to me.
His suggestions have worked.
I too chose not to continue on with the PPI's.
I was worse on them than without.
Read his website...a lot of helpful information.
As for myself...I used Zantac 150 twice a day...every 12 hours.
I also used the Gastromend HP, Probiotic, and Digestive Enzymes.
While I'm not 100% able to eat anything I want.....
I feel like myself again.
For a time...I believed that person no longer existed.
It's imperative that you stay away from those foods you shouldn't be eating. There's consequences to it.
I have been eating mashed potatoes, grilled/baked chicken, rice, chicken broth, bananas, and toast for months.
I drink PH9+ water.
I wish the best for you.
Can I ask you do certain vitamin tablets set you off? I bought some high quality Enzymes from my Health Shop and they are rather large so I break them in half. But I'm wondering if this has started my gast off again as my stomach hurts about half an hour later. The same seems to happen when I take a Krill oil cap or Cod liver oil cap - should I drop these off?
Thanks G x
I found enzymes bad as well.
Aleksey( gastritis genius Shihonage) has not posted here for a while but he knows of a fish oil that is safe. Also check posts by smilelikeyoumeanit. She is another pro on gastritis. She has researched a ton of stuff and we discussed that foods that are too alkaline are not good for gastritis all the time either. You have to figure out what is good for you and stick to it.
Faithful... the longer you have gastritis symptoms, the longer it takes to heal it. You need to start suppressing the acid in some way soon. Check alekseys profile. He is big on Zantac and gastromed etc.. Zantac is safer than a PPI. In the short term a PPI is safer, it is long term that is the issue.
There are many on this site who have tried to heal gastritis naturally and regret not having used some form of acid suppression right away because it can become chronic very quickly and take much longer to heal. Do a food journal but generally eggs(yokes) are not good for gastritis and some people do have issues with bananas. Papayas are good for many but not everyone. The texture of rice can be an issue and not all streamed veggies are good either. it is a trial and error process. Try foods in a smoothie form. Much easier to digest.
This takes a ton of discipline but it can get way better. Dont lose hope!
I was wondering if a food causes no burning then its a good food? i tolerate egg yolks better than fish/chicken etc.
Is Tvorog good for everyone? I eat it and it causes no burning but soothes burning except it causes slight pain here and there hopefully because i eat it very cold temperature as it is in the fridge.
I wonder if i can just eat those 3 things and some acid supresson plus pepzin gi will be enough to allow me to eat more? and by how long?
say i feel no symptoms at all with super limited diet and if i add sucralfate at night or just one pepcid at night then what is the point of acid supression with ppis if u cant eat more things if the pepcid or sucralfate is taking away the symptoms?
does ppi have something special that heal stomach lining?
I wisih I could eat yogurt then i wouldnt have to worry about preparing meals so often especially the potatoes, maybe if i increase pepcid to 40mg x2 a day or if i take a ppi will i be able to?
I would use zantac instead the way shihonage says. I dont think pepcid works as well as Zantac. Aleksey takes Zantac every 8 hours. You may be able to eat more on Zantac.
It is a concern when you have had gastritis for a year and a half and it is worse.
You either can stick to the foods that are not a problem and the zantac or take a PPI. PPIs work extremely well. Having chronic gastritis for this long can cause other problems. Do what it takes to be symptom free. No gastritis symptoms is what you need to have for at least 3 months. A ppi for the short term is wiser than chronic gastritis for long periods of time.
Try Zantac and the really strict diet for a month and see how you do. If that doesnt work then I would go to a ppi. It is not good to keep damaging the lining of the stomach. On a PPI like dexilant you will be able to eat a lot more.
This issue is a balancing thing. It is not good to lose a ton of weight with this issue either. A ppi gets you to a healed place way more quickly and then you can get off them more quickly but the longer you have had untreated gastritis, the longer it will take to heal. It could be a year.
Anxiety is a huge contributor to gastritis. Keep that in mind and do some relaxation stuff.
Ask yourself how long you want to keep inflaming the stomach.
Gastritis need to be nipped in the bud quickly. That is the key to not having it come back all the time and you will always have to be careful with diet. Once the stomach has been very inflamed it is prone to that for a very long time.
You have to have a ton of discipline to get to a good place with gastritis. That is the hardest part. It can take years.
I know this is hard.
