Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
We need to eat bland foods and avoid triggers. Hopefully you will heal now if the H pylori has gone. I don,t know if you can get a test to see if it has gone. Nausea is a symptom of gastritis. I have a lot of pain with mine and reflux too, it sucks. I don,t drink at all, I can,t but have also given up coffee which I love. The experts say to not have coffee, onions, tomatoes, citrus or chocolate and to avoid fatty foods, also spicy foods. It is really awful as we have to avoid all the nice stuff. I sometimes slip up with the diet and get a lot of flare ups but after 4 years I just want to eat and drink normal. We can,t even have soda pop and I love fizzy apple. Avoid orange juice at all costs too.
How long do gastritis 'flare ups' last in your experience? As stated, my main symptom is nausea (I don't have pain). I am going to be super careful re diet, avoiding triggers etc.
For those who have had HP and done the course of triple therapy, how long was it before you felt better and your stomach started to heal?
Many thanks,
WT
Sorry that you are going through this. My main symptom gastritis is nausea too. First week I thought perhaps I had the flu, but aside from the nauasea, I had no other symptoms. Endoscopy showed a bit of inflammation. I am also on lansoprazole as well, but this is my 3rd PPI. So perhaps you ask you doctor if you can try another PPI as they don't all work for everyone. (Plus, my dr upped the dosage to 2x/day, which helped more...but I know that not everyone wants to be on PPIs). On bad days, I also take a zantac 150 and this seems to ease the nausea. My GI also prescribed a nausea med, but it doesn't help much. During bad days, keep your diet simple...which is sounds like you're doing (and always avoid those trigger foods).
Good luck...hope the nausea eases. I know how awful it is.
Best wishes,
WT
