Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
But it didn't help me with my Gastritis.
As herrlehmann said, Domperidone alone will not cure gastritis, but it will help in combination with dietary changes. I am also taking a PPI (Lansoprazole). These medications, along with a strict diet, really help me with gastritis.
I have a wonderful appetite, but the food is slow in moving out of my stomach.
The doctor prescribed me 4 pills a day, 30 min before meals and at bedtime. The medication started working right away, I got such relief as the stomach got working again. I felt much better within a few days. As my stomach got stronger, I was able to eat larger meals. I took Domperidone for about 4 months, and I started gaining some weight. As I got better, I slowly went down to 1 pill a day, and then stopped altogether.
Now, there were side effects, like drowsiness, but they were minor. Oh yes, and my periods stopped while I was on it.
However, I didn't really understand how to treat gastritis, or what diet I should follow. As I got back to my previous foods, the gastritis came back. Now I'm on Domperidone again, but this time I'm sticking to the proper diet.
I start goodin the morning, then as the stomach fills so does the pain, so I'm really hoping the Domperidone helps me. The price was not that bad, for me 3 month supply 65.00 USA dollar. They told me 7 to 21 days for shipping. Do you still take PPI for the gastritis, I will still stick with my diet, but maybe add some fruits and vegetable since they are the hardest to break down.
As far as fruits and vegetables, the easiest to digest are banana, applesause, carrots (cooked), zucchini and cauliflower.
The doctor told me that if you eliminate rough foods, the stomach will lose the ability to digest it. It must be trained again, very slowly, to accept this food. Be patient, don't rush with this, and the stomach will get stronger.
I'm going to stop tramodol to see if it makes any difference with pain and emptying.if the pain is too bad, I'll have to take tramodol.
Are ypu gluten free?, I'm just gluten sensitive, I had the test it and I don't have cecelic. I use to love my grilled cheese sandwich. What are some of your favorites.
I have the same problem with overeating during supper. I really have to watch what I eat in the evening, because most of my flareups happen at night. Right now I am eating oatmeal first thing in the morning, and at bedtime. This seems to soothe my stomach. I make it really runny, and cook it for 20 min, otherwise it is too heavy for me.
I tried a gluten free, FODMAPS diet for a while, but I found it too restrictive. I was losing weight way too fast. I since introduced gluten back into my diet, and I can tolerate it well. However, I am intolerant to dairy, and even a tiny amount gives me terrible upset stomach. My blood test did not show any gluten or lactose intolerance.
Here is what I am eating right now. Hope this helps. I am trying to introduce more variety, but these are the foods that are safe for me.
Rice, rice noodles, buckwheat, oatmeal, potatoes, bread, saltines
Chicken, fish, soy butter
Carrots, zucchini, cauliflower
Banana, applesause
I know what you mean about gluten free, the only item I like is there pancake mix, by King Arthur, they are so delicious, I could eat 6 if I could fit in my stomach, I would love to try regular bread, I miss it so much.i had the gluten test too and I'm not Celtic.
Do you eat any pasta?or any soups?how about sandwiches? I really miss them.
My Nathropath gave me a digestive enzyme to take with my meals and she said not to drink liquids before or after meals, it inter fears with digestion.
Thanks for your info. Since you have the same as me gastritis and gastroparesis, I had a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago, and had para aortic lymph nodes removed and my dr feels the nerve may have been injured at that time, had uterine cancer, had chemo and internal radiation. But after all my treatments I had no problems with my GI, and I always watched what I ate, that's why I'm so upset I got this terrible disease. It's really changed my life. I use to travel a lot and now I don't go anywhere, has your life changed or did you get back into your normal life?
Do you take a PPI too.
Be very careful with digestive enzymes. I tried them on several occasions, and they give me nausea and burning stomach ache. What really helps me is a bland diet, PPI, and Domperidone. As far as the cause of my gastritis, I think it is the combination of too much coffee, herbs and OTC medications.
Ive had gastritis on and off for 10 years. I didnt know what was wrong with me, and it made me very anxious. I did not travel, because I never knew when my illness would strike. Now that I know what diet to follow, it gives me some sense of control. I can see myself traveling in the future. Of course, I will need to arrange for a bland diet at all times, and not eat any problem foods. I am still far from healed, and anything can set it off again. But as long as I follow my diet, I feel great and my stomach doesnt bother me.
