Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.

My symptoms have really flared up since Sunday. I was thinking it was all the gastritis. The pain is worse today so I went to the doctors. I have been having reflux too. I have been stressed over the ph monitoring test I had. I tried the Slippery elm but no relief. Now the docotor says that my pain is all the reflux as you don't get gastritis pain at the top of the stomach. I was diagnosed as having gastritis there when I had the endoscope. I have to take 2 Pantoprazoles now and 4 spoons of Gaviscon twice a day. He said not to take Slippery elm at all as it interferes with the absorption of the Pantoprazole. Where do you get the pain,upper or lower stomach? It looks like I have acid burning. I will have to see what the test says. I don't know how Im going to get rid of this now.I will have to stick with the meds until I see the specialist. I will still look on this site even though I don't know if I still have any gastritis or not.

So sorry you're dealing with this.

I may not be much help, as I can get pain just about anywhere, due to my neurological condition/fibro. However, I do believe I get 'more' pain a bit lower than the top of the stomach. Very hard to tell with all 3 things going on the same time, though. Sorry I'm not more help.

Hi sunlovinmom thanks I know you care anyway. I think it is mainly the acid,well acid affects the gastritis too,its just that my meds don't seem to do anything. Poor you having a neurological condition and fibro as well. I hope you can get some relief. We all have to keep going and try to improve our health. Ive got a friend struggling with IBS and its hard to know what to suggest for that. Funny thing is I used to get IBS quite bad in my colon but don't now,its all gastric.

i dont know if i am much help either ....when my Gerd/Gastritis flares up i feel it first in my shoulders ,neck and upper arms it all feels real sore like i over did a work out, and then i get nauseated and lightheaded, sharp pain at my belly button , stomach area and lower back and acid crawls up my esophagus ...i just went to this information class for weight loss and now im waiting to speak to the surgent to see if that might cure the issue right now im willing to do what ever it takes to get this fixed even tho i have a more good than bad days now ....it still sucks .....How did your PH testing go poorlygirl41?

Hi dagmar those symptoms sound awful. I just get pain below my breastbone in my stomach and it won't go. It gets more severe and hurts on swallowing my food. I was told I had inflammation at the top of my stomach but I get reflux so don't know whats going on. My lower stomach feels fine. I have occasionally had pain at the front of my neck but it goes. The ph test was really awful. I didn't have any Pantoprazole or food and got to the hospital in the afternoon. I had oesophageal mamatory where a thick tube is shoved down the nose into it. I had to swallow water while it was measured. I was really gagging on it. Then I had to have the tube down my nose for the box,to monitor for 24 hours. The pain I had in the night was horrendous so I called the docs and they couldn't do anything. Anyway the pain has persisted since I had it out. I should not have had coffee I don't think after it. We walked round a big shopping centre nearby while I had it in. I didn't care what people thought. No one said anything. Never again for that test. I will proberly be waiting until after Christmas for the results. I just wish they could cure my stomach.

Oh wow im sorry that sounds not good ...i thought they did that with something the put on your esophagus via endoscopy , i couldnt have handled the nose thing .....and u should think they would be faster with the results than make u wait till after the holidays...smh ...Mine isnt so bad really its just uncomfi when it comes to the neck, shoulder and arm pain and sometimes it has me wondering if it might be something else.......the stomach and back is the painful part but u know that already ...lets hope we all be feeling good soon this got to get better one of these days .....

We all need a miracle. I wonder why your pain goes into the shoulders,neck and upper arms. Ive had pain that has gone all round my chest and I put it down to acid travelling about. I had to have the test or the docs won't consider an op. In this country they don't do the Bravo test where its a capsule placed in the oesophaghus. Well in my area they don't. I had to travel about 15 miles too to the nearest city. Its crap,good job my husband could take me. I will keep up with the antacids and see how I go. Its not fair really,I started off with oesophaghitis now got GERD and gastritis. It knows how to get me my stomach.
