I was nervous too when I had my endoscopy, but it turned out to fine. Short and sweet.

It's done! Pheff... I was nervous for nothing. I was hooked up to a baby-needle IV, wheeled into the room, very nice nurses joked around while setting me up, then the meds and immediately zzzzz.... Next thing I know I'm being wheeled out and offered juice and cookies. Where did the 10 minute exam go? I have no idea. I don't even remember the scary thing being put in. So for any of you reading nightmare stories on the net, don't believe them!!!

I have a very lightly sore throat now, that's all.

And the results are (drumroll):

NOTHING. Nothing remarkable in my stomach. Just a normal stomach. This is great news, and it's not so great news. Because my pain is definitely there. Everything else was checked earlier (gallbladder, etc) and they were fine. WTF. I'm relieved, but I'm still not sure what to think. So I don't have gastritis after all...with all the symptoms, pains, pangs and burns of gastritis. What do I have then? They said "functional dyspepsia" which I suspect is doctor speak for "I have no idea what's wrong with you yet"...

They switched me to Dexilant 60mg/day, told me to lay off all other antacids and supplements as not to muddle things so we can get a clear picture of how this one works. I will have a follow up in a few weeks.

Relieved, but... not sure what to think yet.. it's hard to treat something when you have no idea what it is..

Well glad to hear it's not bad gastritis anyway...
Do you have any food intolerances that might play into this?
Wondering if they mentioned IBS? Or if you've had a colonoscopy? (which btw is just about the same experience as an ercp)...

After over 2 yrs with this thing it's become obvious to me that when my IBS acts up, it's MUCH worse...as though the spasms from the IBS back up into my stomach.

Hi. I thought I'd follow up when I'm less fuzzy....my last post was still "legally impaired" after the hospital.

So I have all the symptoms of gastritis without having visible gastritis. By how my stomach feels, I'd figure the top right was completely inflamed with ulcers and who knows what else, yet my stomach in appearance is a picture of health. What is going on here?

This is not good... If you have gastritis, or whatever other inflammation, you heal it and it goes away. It's a rocky road, but you get to the end eventually. What is it that I have? How can you heal something when you don't know what it is?

Can anyone shed some light? I'm stumped. Absolutely stumped.. this is NOT what I expected.

On my first scope Ende of 2013 i had no visible Gastritis, but had horrible pain. In January i had another scope with Antrum Gastritis then. Three Months ago i had a scope with a Gastritis over my whole Stomach ...

I need to add a couple of details - they took biopsies of the stomach and the gastroesophageal junction, they will come back in 2-3 weeks. I will have a follow up with the specialist at that time.

I'm completely stumped.

did you have h.pylori? Did they know why the third endo showed the gastritis?

They said they will check for bacteria for me...

I had no Helicobacter. I think my Gastritis comes from Stress ..

@herrlehmann: gotcha... stress can definitely do you in...

I don't know what else to say at this point. maybe I *had* gastritis and healed the visible redness and inflammation by now, but anything slightly irritating will bring it right back...

I need to mull this over for a while, take my new meds, and wait for the next gastro doctor appointment. Completely stumped...

Glad to hear it is nothing serious, sucks that it just adds to the mystery.

It is possible that the gastritis is healed but just recently and the PPI might be exacerbating the pain. Just a thought.

Hi, treeofstars. I also suspect the PPI... I still almost wish it was a mild gastritis, then at least you know what to do. We will have to wait it out and see. thanks for rooting for me, I hope you're feeling better today.

Oh yeah, it could really be the PPI! I had a lot of problems with Omeprazole. Maybe you can switch to Zantac?

I'm going to try to get this under control and take the dexilant for a little while..see what happens, and try to plateau this at least. I won't know for sure what's going on in there until I get the biopsy back. They also signed me up for the GI clinic at the hospital... which is comforting... You can wait for years for things like this in Canada.

I'm going on an adventure holiday in December and the worst case scenario is that I'll be flaring and miserable. I'm going to do whatever I can until then to level out... I'm not brave enough to ditch the PPI and see what happens with only 2 1/2 months until I go.. But like you guys say, it could very well be the PPI, too. I read the side effects can be similar to what you're trying to cure :P nuts.

I was on Zantac earlier this year and it did nothing... i just don't understand.
