Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
I need to go for an endoscopy in June because my gastritis, diagnosed in 2009, has just not abated. I have to give a stool sample first to test for h pylori and had to be off my PPI for two weeks (apparently, PPIs interfere with the results of a lot of tests). For these two weeks, as you can imagine, I've been absolutely sick. GERD has worsened along with gastritis (which has been flaring since December's colonoscopy prep). People with GERD tend to have a very delicate gag reflux. I've been also very sick. Put two and two together and you can imagine the absolute disgusting illness I felt trying to retrieve the sample. Do doctors even realize what they ask sometimes? In any case, thank God that is over. I immediately ran for the Zantac and feel almost instantly better. I just want to feel better again, just for one frigging day. Sorry for the rant...

you are right you need 150 every 12 hours to start and see how you do.
i also had an issue with slippery elm a few years back. some people use flax seed in hot water. it turns into a gel as well. it made my esophagus worse..
i discovered a very disciplined diet was the key to healing this. For me it is all about diet and what you put into your body. I never had mental stress but it is a huge factor too.
Getting the mental part figured is the key to healing this, if you have this issue.
That is my best advice!

Lesley - yes a total Div Head that doc. I don't normally see her and what makes me more annoyed is that we have a specified 10 min slot per patient - no more! And I had just sat down and her phone went and she asked me to wait outside whilst she took the call -now I am a considerate and patient person - but 6 mins later I was still there. So then she listened "quickly" to me and said - yes referral for scope and wrote this 300mg script!!! Then said put the milk bottles out on your way out!!!! (Only joking, I am being sarcastic)
I am actually feeling much worse and no flippin wonder if I am not covered for half a day every day. So cross I could quite happily make an appointment with her and give her what for.
Anyway - this DS and you guys have been amazing. (Even my hubs is impressed lol).

yes! what you are describing is too often the case, isnt it? I have to say that is so ride of that lady!! Like you are so unimportant!
We are lucky in Canada. The doctors get paid differently here but it isnt perfect here either! I have a friend in England. I think you said you were from there. It sounds bad there for medical care and the doctors go on strike etc and hospitals get closed! That never happens here. A huge amount of our tax dollars pay for their huge salaries!
Too bad you are worse! No surprise though. We cant get Zantac by a prescription here. But we can get it in different dosages. Try gaviscon tablets with the zantac until you get better. They are very natural here. I know they are not as natural in the UK but they totally block the esophagus for hours. Especially at night.
