Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
What is gastroparesis?
Gastroparesis (gastric = stomach; paresis = paralysis) literally means stomach paralysis. It is a condition in which the stomach muscle becomes slow and weakened. Following a meal, it takes too long for the stomach to empty its contents into the small intestine.
I was recently diagnosed with gastroparesis, about a year after being diagnosed with gastritis. Since the condition makes me ill and unable to do the things I once did, everything is suffering.
I lost my full time position because I was unable to work my full time hours. Because I lost my full time I lost my medical insurance. This whole situation doesn't seem fair to me. Without insurance I can't get treatment, without treatment I can't work. My boss has been trying to get around it but the corporate office just doesn't care. I had to have my gallbladder removed which made me have to miss a lot of work due to complications, and now this. On top of my insurance without my full time hours i've been cut down to about 30-50 hours when i'm used to getting 80! That's a big difference when my paycheck comes in and bills need to be paid.
Losing my insurance, full time, and ability to perform any kind of job duties will result in me losing my apartment. I don't qualify for disability because, well, not to put my state down but we're really messed up. They told me unless i'm pregnant I can't get any assistance!
Has anyone else lost their position or status at their employment because of their illness? It just doesn't seem fair to me.

I've had every test imaginable done, except the gastric emptying test, so I suppose I should have that done. I'm not working now either. I also have degenerative disc disease and need spinal fusions in two places. What the doctors don't realize is that the worst pain comes from this stomach problem. After that, it's my back. So if I have the two fusion surgeries, i'll still have the stomach problems and they can't figure that out.
There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my liver, pancreas or gall gladder. They've done a number of different scopes and only found a little gastritis. I get so nauseated and feel like I swallowed a rock. Is that how you feel when you're sick? What kind of medications are they giving you for gastroparesis?
Fortunately, I still have my insurance from my employer. The neurosurgeon says it will cost anywhere from $250,000 to $400,000 to do the surgeries on my back. But I know I will be left with this stomach pain for which they can't seem to do/find anything.
I don't know what to do either,, but just talking about it does help. Thanks for listening.
