I have mild gastritis, but was only diagnosed 5 weeks ago after 7 months of misery. In the beginning I couldn't eat anything and had almost 'flu' aching all over like symptoms along with nausea especially when I woke up, and general stomach aching which could be anywere in the stomach area. Then after a few weeks I had a LOT of horrible gnawing stomach pain...like hunger pains but not proper ones whixh would go away on eating only to return a short time after and also burning in the centre of my chest, about 3 inch above belly button which is the acid irritaion. The trouble with gastritis is the pain can change a lot and is different for everyone. But I think the burning and gnawing hunger pains and aching are very common. have you had an endoscopy done?? are you on any medication?

Hi Mikey, I experienced burning in my stomach, right below sternum, excessive burping, after eating just didn't feel well for about an hour or so, would wake up at night with the gnawing pains you described. I had an EGD in April and a repeat last week. I took Protonix (had to stop, caused too many side effects), switched to Pepcid and that went better but suffered a few side effects with that so stopped that and the dr. said my gastritis is currently pretty much healed. Hope you get some relief.

Oh, SJH - I'm so thrilled for you! That's happy happy news. Are you actually feeling better? Have you been able to expand your diet with no repercussions? Please do let us know what supplements you used and what diet strategies you followed that you think helped. Please also suggest what you think did not help or hurt. Thank you!

Mikey- mine started with burning pain right behind my upper left ribcage. If I drank water, it would feel like it was boiling once it hit my stomach. I would also get (less) pain on the right side. I also have pain in the pit of my stomach that comes and goes. PROFOUND nausea is my worst symptom, too. We are here to support you :)

also for me i cant sit happily without constant pain!! i have to lay on my right side just to sleep...it started in left side stomach strange weird pains. i stopped getting no where near as hungry .and pain stopped a bit when i did eat...now its realy painful in left side of my back i dont like even putting any pressure on my left side of back! i mean i went for a bike ride and pain got worse as i went up a hill i was out of breath also... not myself.. i hope i havnt got anything worse im 23. can anyone relate to my symptoms????

It's probably gastritis but if your pain is that severe, please see a GI dr. asap. Even if it is for peace of mind.

My pain is started similar to the others. I had a LOT of horrible gnawing stomach pain...like hunger pains, the gnawing pains and excessive burping.
I had a lot of nausea and a lack of appetite.
I also like others say have a general stomach type ache.
keep me posted as to your outcome... I am just now going through gastritis and it's terrible!
