Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
Have you had an endoscopy to comfirm if it is gastritis or an ulcer? thats the only sure way of knowing exactly what it could be. Do you get a gnawing almost 'hungry' like pain?...or burning pain..which is common with gastritis? The trouble with gastritis is that it can be difficult for other people to understand the pain and discomfort that it causes.. Also is pepcid a PPI or h2 blocker? these are acid reducing meds that are used to heal gastritis...we don't have pepcid in the Uk....so not sure what it is. keep us updated :)
I was diagnosed with Gastritis after having an endoscopy in March. At the time, I had NO pain. It wasn't until the end of April, one night after an evening walk, that I got this horrible pain that felt like indigestion. I took some Tums and went to bed, only to wake to the same pain. This went on for about a week before I sought help. My doctor couldn't see me so I went to an Urgent Care center. They told me it was probably an ulcer and to make an appointment for an ultrasound. This happened in a Friday and by Monday morning, I couldn't wait any longer to make an appointment, so I went to the ER. They ran blood tests, did a urine test, ultrasound, EKG and MRI with contrast. They told me it was PROBABLY an ulcer that they couldn't find...??
Got some meds and went home. A week later, still in agonizing pain so I went back to the ER - they did all the same tests, same answer. I believe that I do not have an ulcer, but that it's in fact, horrible Gastritis.
I don't know what else to do. I'm in excruciating pain as I write this...I've been taking a PPI for weeks now, Mylanta twice daily, I'm taking Licorice supplements and eating a very bland diet. I've gone from 112lbs to 105lbs.
I'm not sleeping much because of the horrible pain.
You're not alone! I've convinced myself that I must have cancer that they're missing and I'm going to die. How else do you explain pain this horrible?!!
I'm going to see a GI doctor at the end of this month, so I'm hoping to get some real help.
I feel way too young for this. I'll be 34 next Saturday...and I live the life of a 90 year old right now. I don't want to move, let alone, leave the house :(
I was diagnosed last July with Gastritis. After a couple of months, without any pain, I went back to my usual eating and drinking... and of course I had a flare up. These last two weeks have been pure hell. Especially since there isn't a pill you can take to make it go away. I take protonix daily, I also drink ACV with honey...which, you are right seems to help. What is your diet like?
My diet is similar to a vegetarian diet, however when I crave meat I treat myself to some but in moderate amount. I don't drink beer, coffee or eat spicy foods. Oh and started to exercise on a regular bases, which noticeably has lowered my anxiety towards my stomach pain. Hope this helps
