Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
HOWEVER, since having gastritis probiotics have seemingly made me worse each time I have tried them since getting this horrid illness. Excessive gas and bloating can be a side effect of probiotics as well. Ive read it can go away within 2-3 weeks but have not found that to be the case for me.
I find eating prunes or drinking prune juice to be more effective with no unpleasant side effects. I have also occasionally used a stool softener. I bought some benefiber to try but am waiting at this point Bc I have enough trouble with my meds to be adding in another unknown. If I do start it I plan to start at 1/4 the recommended dose and gradually work up.
The second try was when I was on ranitidine 2x a day. I was feeling so much better and then all of a sudden a week or so into the probiotic I got lower abdominal pain, nausea, excessive gas, and some stomach discomfort. I improved again once I stopped them.
I definitely had more nausea consistently since I started taking them and stopped them as of yesterday. I hope it gets back to where it was before them. I am having bad overall sx in the last two days :(
Thanks again!
I am a bit afraid to try any new prob.s for a while but will keep those two you mentioned in mind when I venture out in that direction again :) Have you felt a positive change in your sx since you started taking them that you can attribute to the prob.s?
