Gastritis Support Group
Gastritis is a medical term for inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It means that white blood cells move into the wall of the stomach as a response to some type of injury. Gastritis has many underlying causes, from infection with the bacterium H. pylori, bile reflux, or excessive consumption of alcohol or certain foods or drugs like aspirin.
And others neither likes.
I follow the FODMAP diet for the IBS.
Hormones impact on it too.
I used to have IBS (went away when I stopped gluten) and yesterday a GI doctor told me he thinks I have non ulcer dyspepsia, which is part of functional GI disorders like IBS but localized around the stomach. I don't know if I do have ulcer dyspepsia but I know I had gastritis (confirmed by endoscopy) which is resolving (I have been pain free for 5 days!). The diet for both IBS and gastritis are slightly different and combining both makes for more restriction than either diets alone. The GI doctor thinks that those GI functional diseases result from a nerve malfunction problem when the nerves give the brain wrong information about pain so he wanted me to take anti-anxiety medecine as well but I I would rather not. I told him I want to start running regularly instead of taking anti-anxiety medication but he dismissed my comment even though there was an article in the health section of the New York Times saying that running can help control anxiety. The funny part is that I don't feel anxious and I have zero stress in my life at the moment.
I had IBS-D from age 9 til about 40 then it suddenly changed to IBS-C. Apparently this isn't unusual. Anyway, I've found that a slippery elm capsule and a marshmallow root capsule at night and some marshmallow root tea in the daytime help keep things moving just right as long as I stick to my food plan.
